Probably just securing the name before someone grabs it but still.

Obviously not an expert on trademark law, but I'm pretty sure that they actually have to use it within a certain time period (although I think announcing developing it counts as a use).

IIRC 6 months to publicly show intent to release, probably in the form of a trailer that shows work has been done to the game.

someone farted out on the internet that the domain names for
COD 6 COD 7 etc, was bought already by the company who made them.
so I really won't call that a valid reason to party.
