BTW, was LevelCap part of the Level-something community we played BF3/BF4 with once in a blue moon?
I'm completely blanking on the name and the URL they had....

It was LevelBF and they had nothing to do with LevelCap

LevelBF was a fork of 21CW, a year into BF3. It had a strong core of players and leaders with a drive for organized (i.e. chain of command, discipline, planning, etc.), who were ready to teach others and give those misbehaving good ass whooping + they were so popular on YouTube/Twitter, that they had an endless stream of replacements, effectively making everybody expendable. If you were a clueless blueberry, playing organized for the first time, you'd be surrounded by people with years of 32v32 experience, dating back to BF2 and beyond, so you'd need to try hard not to learn anything, and if you wouldn't - you'd get a boot.

In BF4, most of the core faded away in the first year or so, since BF4 wasn't offering much of an improvement over BF3, while being exceptionally buggy. With the core went the overall leadership/mentorship quality and all the content creation, which was driving the popularity. There were, of course, people who have learned from the old timers and weren't sick of modern combat yet, but those were few and far between, since Level was only a year old when BF4 came out. In the end, without the core and the popularity, Level ended up being a shell of what it was in BF3. Most of those coming for some fun 32v32 organized were leaving disappointed, while those most likely to stick around were the "for the glory" ones = constant lone-wolfing, ignoring of orders, kill streak prioritization, rage-quitting on first trouble = boring to play/watch and impossible to balance = death.

I haven't participated in Level until the last two seasons and the Level vs. GC in late 2015, but I have a fairly good picture of how it went down. Don't think Level would be able to come back on its own at this point, since the community defining Level doesn't really exist anymore. Maybe some joint effort with GC could be arranged (using Level's and Auzom's mailing lists, Twitter/YouTube/Twitch reach, maybe some production and casting, and leaving the rest to GC), but let's get server passwords first.

December update from DICE/EA
Spoiler: show
Admin Control Panel
A separate screen you can reach from inside the game where you will find functions such as Kick/Ban along with Ban and VIP lists.

Kick/Ban
You will be able to see a list of all current players on the servers and either kick or ban them. Once banned they will be stored in the Ban List. From there you can unban them or just view the list of all currently banned players.

Ban & VIP Lists
Here, you will be be able to view and edit the Ban & VIP List.

The VIP List is a list of players that will have queue priority (even higher priority than Premium Pass owners). For instance, if you have a clan and the clan members contribute to the server cost, you can add them in the VIP List and they will put into the highest priority queue.

Password Protected Servers
We are looking to re-introduce this setting for Battlefield 1 rented servers that admins want to secure with a password. Setting a password will make the server run "Unranked", so players who join won’t receive any experience, gain medals, or progression of any kind, but they will have all equipment unlocked while playing on that server.

New Settings

Here is a list of some of the new server settings we are looking to implement in future updates:

· Squad Leader Spawn Only
A popular setting from previous titles. We are looking to add this in a future update so server admins can set this on their server.

· Behemoth on/off toggle
A new setting for admins where they can turn off the Behemoth from spawning on their servers.

· Whole Magazine Reload
A setting from previous Hardcore versions. Admins will have access to turn it on or off on their servers.
If they implemented all these features, what will still be missing to prevent us from running a camp? We've got kick/ban and password protection along with turning the behemoth on/off (Assuming they implement everything they want too).

round restarting and at-will map swapping, which they have never even addressed as an issue. without round restarting we can't start live rounds fairly, especially considering there is no clan tag system in BF1 so there's no way to easily identify teams short of manually cross checking each team list with an army roster.

we could probably get by without the clan tags and at-will map changing (depending on how a few things are implemented), but without round restarting we're severely limited in how we make a fair round start system and still get through a reasonable number of maps a day. on top of the logistical headache it creates for TAs and HCs that require accurate and known round start timings for things to work out in terms of fairness and breakout strategies.

also note that they never actually committed to providing passwords, they just say they're looking into it instead of the definitive "you will" attached to the kick/ban section. which means it's not a guarantee or a priority subject for them.

It also looks like it's still a "One admin one server" type deal. Doesn't really work for us with multiple TAs who like to actually get the occsaional game in during a campaign, never mind the issue that our TAs may not be the same as the people (person) in control of our funds.

Gwynz,

I think that is by far the least of our issues.

it's actually a huge issue considering as a community we run off of donations, and as it stands there is no way for our existing paypal account (where all of our money as a community goes) to actually pay for a server.

might not impact you at all but it's a rather big deal for those of us responsible for the funds.

on top of that, if there's only 1 possible admin each week, and that person has to be the one who pays for the server, then we can't do a long term server rental as a community, as if the admin person who paid for the server can't show up due to RL reasons then someone else is forced to rent a server for the day just for the game to function in the community setting.

as far as it seems ( on the official forums pointing to somethings EA ppl like to twitter  ) the things used to be server settings, now become a kind of game mode and will be sold as DLC. That to me is the End to my BF hopes at all. I feel sad for GC cause I had a ton of fun here but GC has no other game to make a 32vs32 battle, other kinds of game fail to funktion with GC.
Hope the forum stays up at least for the memory and may be for another campaign with lots of luck....hope dies last

edit. 21CW as far as I recall correctly, we had contact (some played with us ?) at BF42 but none of the later members new about this. Modern Times are fast, aren't they

Edit 2 hit wrong button

wouldn't buying a copy of the game and using it to purchase and admin the server with the login credentials given to the senate and TA's solve that issue?

still no way to use the paypal account we use for donations and until they say otherwise it's still limiting it to 1 possible admin at a time, which isn't ideal.

it's a workaround that would make things possible in a basic sense, but it's still nowhere near previous iterations in terms of usability.

Hello guys! I am sad to see how EA/DICE have almost entirely destroyed 32v32 communities and e-sports into the bargain :( . But we should never give up! There are alternatives and the only way for us, the players who enjoy organized and complex team play with behind-the-scenes campaign planning, to survive is to adapt.

If you remember the Bulgarian squad - Sach7mo, MisterInsane, ShadowStep and myself, we still play BF3 almost every single day and, with a very deep sorrow, reminisce about our time in GC, when we constantly had 64+ players ready to jump in game and have 6 very long hours, which will either bring joyfulness, or a lot of rage and never-ending AAR reports on what went wrong during the battleday.

I understand we have went over that topic more than once, but maybe, just maybe, we could reconsider going back to an older game, such as BF3 or even Project Reality - the Standalone. I am aware of the possible risks like very low numbers/ losing some members ( which I don't think will ever happen as long as they are dedicated to the idea behind Global Conflict), but that's about it. If advertised correctly, I am certain we will attract some new faces' attention, and potentially, get GC back on its feet - make Global Conflict great again!

Alternatively, we could explore Project Reality SA as a solution to the current issue. Many of the old folks here are familiar with Battlefield 2 and know it's a great game. Unfortunately, the test of time has affected this one, too. The difference between Battlefield 2 and Project Reality SA, which is based on Battlefield 2, is that it gets updated on a regular basis and people actually play it, just like BF3, without the updates, though. The only obstacle I see in PR is the outdated graphics. Despite its obsolete video performance, it still has a lot to offer such some gameplay mechanics which haven't been introduced into any other BF game since Battlefield 2.

All in all, I am not giving up on GC, even though I have been on an idle mode for a very long period. My time, here, with you guys, has been one of the best in my gaming career ever! Nevertheless, I still want to be able to play beside my buddies like Flummi, undertow, Razy, Necro and many more, and achieve great victories together! Thank you all for reading my post, and remember: whatever path you choose to follow as a community, I will always support your decision wholeheartedly    .

Progress.
What was mentioned as "looking into" from the December patch notes on have been confirmed. At this point, all that's missing from GC standards is round-restarting (does anyone know for-sure that this isn't possible any way? we're not overlooking any hidden effect behind updating a rented server's map rotation list or something?) and multiple admins.
