Battlefield alternatives

With Battlefield 1 seemingly dead and Battlefront more than 6 months away, I think we should finally consider the step of leaving that franchise behind (at least until we see EA/DICE making the changes we need them to make) and pivoting to another game. There have allready been numerous suggestions, but I think it's gonna be helpful going into the future to compile them in one thread.

Without starting a poll about it, I think we can agree that whatever ends up replacing Battlefield should be as close to that game as possible, seeing as that's what brought us all here in the first place. To spell it out a little: Tactical gameplay, with some amount of arcadyness (e.g. not having to wait forever to get back into the action after you've been killed) and a platform to facilitate our campaign meta game.

Some notable Suggestions so far were:

Squad
Spoiler: show
->It's either Hardcore Battlefield, or Arma Light, the jury is still out. Anyway, like the title says, the game is very Squad-oriented and while it doesn't have an actual commander, I'd say it would work well into our basic campaign sturcture.

+Basically what we were doing already, with a more realistic spin to it. Would be easy to adapt to our specific needs.
+Highly moddable. Between community content on steam, and stuff that we could percievably do in-house, we'll probably never lack maps and assets to try out.

-It's not out yet. Final release is likely this year, but no official word, afaik. Until then it's playable and can be quite fun, but it's somewhat lacking in content right now.
-Definitely a more realistic title than BF. Plays a lot slower and more methodical. I like it, but I know it's not to everyone's taste.
Rising Storm 2
Spoiler: show
->It's Battlefield, but with one-shot-kills and set in the Vietnam war. The main game mode is similar to Rush, except you have to cap instead of blowing something up. Less tactical depth, but more action than Squad. The game has an active commander that has to call in arty and air strikes on a radio in game on targets set by the SLs. This iteration of the franchise even has helicopters, but only on the american side, obviously. I have only played a couple of hours in the beta so far, but the asymmetrical balancing in this game seems to be done very well.

+Closer to Battlefield than anything else out there, or even just on the horizon.

-Also not out yet. Steam says Q2 2017. From the beta, it seemed like they're close, but who knows.
-The one-shottiness of it all might deter some people.
-There are usually only two objectives at a time, so the commander role would change a bit from what we're used to doing. There's still enough stuff to do for the commander to not get bored, it's just different stuff.
If you want to add to the list of possible games please give a short discription and maybe some pros and cons. Try to be objective.

Day of infamy is pretty fun and very tactical.

:] CoD WW2
While on the stream they said they're keeping the multiplayer as fast-paced as the Modern Warfare 1&2 eras, they're adding game modes that seem to cater to BF players. Might only support 30 players in a match though so I guess nevermind

Must agree with KaptenKarp, tactical Arma 3 is a great deal of fun and most of the people here will like it.

Guys, we tried arma 3 again and again, only very few actually joined on fun days.

It is just too tactical and simulation heavy for most.

Some good news to keep in mind over the summer.
Róka wrote:There's been word of an eSports client/game-version in the works for a 2017 release. Apparently they've been contemplating splitting Battlefield up like that. Something about wanting to keep the base game approachable for everyone and not splitting up the player base. Really strange logic seeing that forcing people that want to play with any amount of organization to use a separate game somehow isn't splitting in-and-of-itself? Also, no other games have a problem dealing with this, but it was mentioned that balancing Battlefield games for both casual and competitive play is way too hard as they really do entail different things at this point -- so they want to just keep the base game casual and release an eSports Battlefield that they can actively tweak depending on competitive players' opinions.
Something else mentioned that was more-so a rumor was that such a version might not be WW1-related, but more modern -- with the possibility that they would include multiple eras. This last part sounded way too good to be true but I guess we can dream
Official announcement that this is actually happening, and we will be getting more information this August.
Hopefully, with a RS2:Vietnam campaign extending to that season and more information regarding this being released going well, we have a chance at reviving this and many other communities after-all.
