1 Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6700 Kentsfield 2.66GHz 2 x 4MB L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor - Retail $985.00

The best CPU out there right now. Made especially for VISTA (don't buy Vista yet)

1 EVGA 122-CK-NF68-AR LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail $249.99

Great board, and SLI-Ready

1 Thermaltake Armor Series VA8003BWS Black Full Tower Case w/ 25CM Fan - Retail $169.99

2 eVGA 768-P2-N831-AR GeForce 8800GTX 768MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Video Card - Retail $579.99 each

One of these cards rox. You need 2 to rock and roll. For a MONSTER RIG, you have to have 2 for SLI.

1 Thermaltake W0116RU Complies with ATX 12V 2.2 & EPS 12V version 750W Power Supply - Retail $189.99

Big graphics = big Power Supply

1 Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1000 (PC2 8000) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model BL2KIT12864AL1005 - Retail $325.99

Yum Fast RAM is your friend.

Western Digital Raptor WD1500ADFD 150GB 10,000 RPM Serial ATA150 Hard Drive - OEM $219.99

You need at least one of these to run your OS. I've had the 75 gig one for 4 years and it kicks a$$.

3 HITACHI Deskstar E7K500 HDS725050KLA360 (0A31619) 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM $169.99

Cheap, Fast and great quality. Can your say Tera-ific for just over $500?

1 Creative 70SB046A00000 7.1 Channels PCI Interface Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatal1ty Professional Series - Retail $145.99

Why the hell not? Just pick some quality speakers to take advantage of the great sound. I'm using Creative Audigy 2 ZS Platinum 6.1 on my last build and am happy happy happy. I don't use 3/4 of the options it has but so what.

1 ZALMAN CNPS9500 LED 92mm 2 Ball Cooling Fan with Heatsink - Retail $47.99
Like extra cooling is a bad thing?

You will need a few extra cables. Also have fun choosing a monitor. Get an HD ready (no tuner) widescreen TV for giggles. Flat monitors are nice, but CRT's still display better for alot less. If you have the room.

All for just $4004.88 US before shipping. Add speakers and a monitor and you are at 5k no problem.

Well first of all , I'm not here to fight Intel over AMD and stuff...
I usually buy whats best performer at that moment and right now AMD has nothing to match the INTEL cpus. And I'm talking about default cpu speeds.
But then again concidering the OC potential C2D has ...we are prolly talking about best OC cpu in history of Computer era ?

Few years ago i had amd 64 2600+ but sold it before i could even try a single 64 bit app or something :P

Anyway , some facts about Intel 64bit tehnology

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/64-bit#Cur ... hitectures

64-bit microprocessor architectures (as of 2006) include:

AMD's AMD64 (previously known as x86-64) architecture, a 64-bit version of the x86 architecture (used in AMD's Athlon 64, Opteron, Sempron, and Turion 64 CPUs).
Intel now uses the same instruction set in newer Pentium 4 and Xeon processors and in Core 2 processors, calling it Intel 64 (previously EM64T, originally IA-32e). (Software manufacturers Microsoft and Sun call this instruction set architecture "x64".)

Benchmark test Intel vs AMD in 64bit applications

http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/di ... 64bit.html

The average performance improvement we have seen from Athlon 64 FX-62 equaled 16%, while Core 2 Extreme X6800 demonstrated only 10% average performance boost. This way, there is a certain difference: AMD K8 turns out 6% mode efficient in 64-bit mode than Intel Core. However, this difference cannot compensate for the 20% performance advantage of the Intel Core 2 Duo over the Athlon 64 X2 working at the same clock speed, which we have pointed out in our previous articles.

Sry for the off topic

Heh dunno whats the difference with Yob set up and the one I made ?
Except
Asus mobo > EVGA anytime.
Asus is power house among the motherboards yet EVGA is newbie with only two boards made so far.I dont say they suck but when You buy Asus it just can't go wrong.

OCZ 8800gtx > others anytime [first hand picked ddr3 ram modules , others take what is left]

Corsair dominator > Crucial
Dominator are 1111Mhz cas 4 , Crucial are 1000Mhz cas 5 but only when you OC.
Default it'll run 800Mhz.So if you dont OC buy some ddr2 6400 800mhz with low latencys.

Seagate are best disks outhere.Wana have fast , quiet and reliable disk ?
SEAGATE is the name.

And another thing.
GF 8800gtx requires 450W power supply , thats 900W in SLI + 2-3 disk... quad cpu and some other stuff...don't think 750W would run this shizz ok.

this artikel should be useful to decide which psu you should buy, because many psu reach the watt number but they dont work stable

here the stress test of the german tomshardware.com site (tomeshardware.de)
http://praxis.thgweb.de/2007/01/15/stre ... index.html

in the table you see the results of the 24 h stresstest red means failed green succeed.
the test is still running only up to 550 watt psu. greater then 550 reaches their watt numbers but most of them are not stable.
Ramrod, out!

That eVGA 8800GTA KO ACS3 edition?

Theres one in my case right now.

OH MY F******* GOD does this card own.
Im ordering the silver (all aluminum, as opposed to aluminum and steel) version of that same case (The thermal take armor w.25cm fan) and that same 750w PSU later this week. Due to the massive size and power requirements of this 8800, I need the new stuff.

I have an ASUS in my current rig and it has run just swell. eVGA boards are the new kids on the block but been reading good things about them. If you go to NVidea website they'll tell you all the hardware they have certified as SLi capable.

There are 1000 watt PSU's out there now.

Heya Plankie!! You're batting .333
Opie and Anthony = Flied out to center.
AMD = Ground out to first
8800 GTX = Home Run

Hoohoo, robin, theyre rippin me off.

I put in my 8800GTX and my fresh new 2GB set (2x1Gb) of Corsair XMS Platinum series RAM last night. I decided against the Armor case with the 25cm fan, Im just going to get the normal version. That one has enough cooling to handle it, I think. Still going to getthat 750w SLI-certified PSU, though. I emailed thermaltake to see if theyd let me RMA my dead 680w psu for a trade in credit towards the new 750
