Virus in PnkBstrk.sys - RESOLVED

Post by sushi »

Avista found the TR/Crypt.ZPACK.Gen' Trojan-thingie in the PnkBstrk.sys, I have just updated pb using the pb tool.
I didn't find anything that this is another Avira-stupidity.

Should I qurantanise the file? What will that do pb?

Delete the file then do a full system scan. After that update PB and you should be OK. If AV comes up with it being a virus again then it's likely a false positive.

I'm assuming you mean Avira, not Avista :-) I did a google search for "TR/Crypt.ZPACK.Gen' in PnkBstrk.sys" and it appears that most people report this as a false positive.

What I would try anyway is performing a manual update of PunkBuster until it says you're totally up to date, then perform another scan and see if that resolves anything.

PB operates like a Trojan but is usually whitelisted by Anti-Virus companies.
PB did just come out with a new update.

Quarantining the file caused BF3 to crash. (I now do know that the pbupdater does not realise that file is missing when doing an updatecheck).

No more viruses found in my full scan. So I guess I am save.

I unquarantined the file and added it to the ignore list of avira.

Thanks guys.
