Forced Push to Talk

Post by DaFi »

Give me Voice activation back, please.

I get that an open mic can be annoying, but I am used to it (RazY70 as well i believe). And if your TS is set up properly, you wont have any background noices. (Not more than with PTT)
I have a mute mic button, so I just mute my mic while eating/drinking/Dying etc..
I am using Voice activation for Teamspeak/Ventrilo/Mumble for about 8 years and dont want to switch to push to talk now.

I believe someone really annoyed others (music?) And everyone got punished for it.
I use a PTT myself, but i know a lot of guys here using voice. activation with proper settings that its almost impossible to tell the diference. For jet flying its absolutely a must to use voice activation.
Just kick out people who abuse stuff instread of disabling it and hurt all the others as well.

Admins here tend to try to be less kick happy than other places, we're all here for fun and we dont want to come across as nazi's. PTT was turned on due to streaming music and people eating meals, chips, slurping soda, munching chips, yelling at their mom or brothers for half an hour, etc.

More input is always good as the admins can get a feel for what the community wants.

I would also prefer Voice Activation especially within the Air Force.. Plus if needed we just let other people know if they need to fix their voice activation if we are hearing excess background noise or ask them to switch to PTT for the meantime. And if there is intentional mic-spam well then you just kick/mute, or if it's a high-ranking officer then you just leave the channel. Honestly, I doubt people will be wanting their soldiers leaving channels mid-battleday or officers muting their squadmates in the heat of battle so they will refrain from the spam/fail-voice-activation.
I would like the luxury of having voice activation within my squad/air force group and then have a PTT if I want to be talking in CC or other channels/groups.

There's a mute button for those that have VA enabled and are annoying. Or move them out of channel.

What hotkeys do you guys use for PTT, anyway?

I havent found a key quick to reach and not already in use...
Currently mine is on "alt"

Force GC newbies to setup ts for PTT. I know my ts is not readily setup for voice activation, and many dont know how to do it.
Expert "talkers" ( :D ) can/should go voice activation.

On a battleday, yes. Not for everyday use which is when it's most annoying.

My PTT is mouse 4, a thumb button, channel commander is mouse 5. I used to use middle click before my last mouse broke.

if someone is annoying tell him to stop.
if he doesn't - kick.
i don't see whats wrong with that. why do we need to be collectively punished because of one person?

I use caps lock, and I remapped my caps lock key to that button between right alt and ctrl... so I don't have to deal with the annoying caps lock going on and off every time I talk so I have to fix it half the time I type. Before that I tried remapping it to alt but I kept alt-tabbing because I would accidentally press caps lock and tab at the same time.
