The sound is gone

Hey guys,
so I just reinstalled my good old x-fi music soundcard and everything is working fine. The only problem is that now I've got no sound in BF 3 anymore. The game is not even listed in the volume mixer while I'm playing...
Do you think I should reinstall the game? Or does anyone else has another solution?

Did you set default audio device for BF3?

yeah it shouldn't matter (at least on win 7+) what hardware you are using. if the application uses "default system device" it gets output by what you set in windows. i have on-board sound card and an audigy one and i can switch between the two on the fly in the windows volume mixer -> playback devices and everything gets channeled to the output i select, provide the app set to "default device".

Have you rebooted your computer yet? Are all the cables plugged into the correct ports?

I just came home and will test it now after a reboot...
Cables are just fine. Checked the sound with Borderlands 2 and Dead Space. Only BF 3 is being a b...

This might be a noobish question
but where can I 'set default audio device for BF3' ? :?

Btw sound is still not working for BF3 after a reboot. Playing in muted mode...

In Sound settings in Windows Control panel. Set it to default, if it is already then set it to the device you installed.

Try this: Right click on your sound>playback devices>click on something other than what you are using (for example I have an 'HDMI' on mine but I use the 'Speakers' setting for my sound card)

So click the other one you're not using, click 'set default', then click back on the one you are using and set default.

Also disable your onboard sound card in your BIOS and uninstall the drivers.

Now I see what you meant :) (default = 'Standard' in German). I've already done this and more...deleted all the old drivers and disabled the onboard device. The weird thing is that like I said all my other games are working just fine and while I'm playing BF 3 it's not even listed in the correspondent window (I mean the window where you can change the different volumes of running programs...I'm missing a word here  ). I'll make a screenshot tomorrow as soon as I get home.

Btw Rum will be just fine but as a grunt I'd be ok with beer...

I remember serious problems with Windows Vista/7 and the old x-fi series.
EAX didnt work or whatever it was called because Windows discontinued something in their OS (direct sound?).
Well, broken memory....

edit: I looked a bit at google. EAX didnt work for quite some time then creative invented "alchemy" or whatever and glued some sh** together.

Get a modern card

1) reinstall the Game Manager and ESN Sonar
2) *open playback devices (control panel -> sound), double click your speakers -> advanced tab -> check/re-check "allow applications to take exclusive control of this device".

*note: apps will appear in the volume mixer only if windows thinks they are transmitting sound. maybe its a BF3 problem. if windows doesn't detect BF3 sound it won't appear in the volume mixer.

If you right click the volume icon in the system tray and left click "Volume control options", is the check box for "All devices currently playing sound" marked when BF3 is running?
