Global Conflict

Was wondering what your experience is with cpu fans. I have a I5 2500k and as motherboard a ASUS p8 z68-vpro socket 1155. I am atm using the fan that came with my cpu but i want to boost up my 2500k a bit since a friend of mine told me i should and it is the great thing about the 2500k. So i was wondering if it is a good thing to buy a new cpu fan to keep my cpu from melting. Thanks in advance!

i doubt you stress your i5 to 100% much, so boosting it won't do anything noticeable.
i have an Arctic Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2 runs at 42 ºC at normal use.
max 63 ºC. (i5 throttling temperature is 98)
around 20-30$

I'm assuming by "boosting" you're talking about overclocking.

Agreed. Unless your CPU is struggling to keep up with the rest of your system, changing the clock frequency wont do much.. I also have an i5-2500k, but i haven't ever raised the clock frequency because it's not the limiting factor in my system. Plus the i5-2500k already has turbo mode, which basically auto overclocks the CPU. If you want you can try just hooking up the fan Necromancer suggested, it might allow your CPU to stay in turbo mode longer (as long as your power supply can maintain the voltage and currents needed).

the only thing about the stock fan is that it is small so it makes a lot of noise on high revolutions. You could buy another cooler + fan to remove noise/increase cooling,

How do you mean ?

Not sure how high the turbo overclocks, but i did notice it exceeded 3.1 on my system.

Buying a replacement fan for a stock Intel cooler would be impractical and more expensive then simply buying a new cooler.

I've got a Coolermaster Hyper 212+ sat on my i5-2500k. Idle 31-35°C , load ~58°C at 4.2Ghz

I believe it gets up to 3.7 GHz, about 10% faster than it's normal speed (3.3 GHz)

Im no Cpu fan, im more of an SSD kinda guy but I always recommend getting an aftermarket cooler, if not for better cooling, for silence.

Oke thanks for the help guys i ordered the 212 evo last night, hope it works!

I also have the 2500K with a Gelid Tranquillo Rev.2. I have never seen it go over 60 degrees Celsius when I overclocked it to 4,2 GHz. (Was not stable due to low voltage, I don't dare to increase the voltage). This cooler is pretty cheap too.

I just checked the temperature of the CPU at idle: 26 degrees Celsius. (room temp 20 degrees)

I just checked it at load (@ 3,4 GHz). It is not going over 50 degrees Celsius.

I've gotten the 212 the last 2 times, happy with it. The lastest version seems slightly louder. Overall still quiet even when overclocking. Tricky part is deciding whether to mount it verticle or horizontal. Your RAM may dictate the direction for clearance. I went horizontal because I have a blow hole on top of the case and figured I might as well blow the heat into it. Found it easier to unsnap the fan mount it and snap the fan back on to the side I wanted air direction. Never had a heat issue, but I dont go crazy on the overclock.

I have the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO and have not gotten temps above 45C at load. Best bang for buck IMO. I've also attached an extra fan, don't know how much it helps though.
