Time for a new headset.

Post by Bock »

Guys. I broke my gaming headset. The left ear cup just hangs there now because it's broken.

So I need to buy a new one.

I would like your suggestions.

I don't have an add-in sound card. The integrated audio on my motherboard has been good enough for me.

I'm basically looking for something that is going to be comfortable to wear for 6+ hours, is of durable build quality, has decent audio quality and a good mic. I would prefer to spend <$150.

I have this one http://steelseries.com/products/audio/s ... siberia-v2

People seem to understand me fine and the audio quality is good, but a bit biased if I compare it to my "studio headphone"
Not too expensive either. It is mostly plastic, so durability is low so dont throw it around

It sits tight on my ears, so environmental sounds are shielded, however, it get uncomfortable if you wear it for 4+ hours without break (I take it off during the BD break and that is just fine)

It's very comfortable with amazing sound quality, for me (non-audiophile)at least.

That surely is a good headphone, but how to use the old microphone? :?

Use the ath for sound while you use the mic of the old one just hang it arround ur neck or something and only plug in the pink mic plug.

Also i can't get enough of my astro a40s its solid and has decent sound.

You can use a clip microphone together with headphones. They cost <5 € here and have a decent quality. I use the Zalman (http://www.amazon.de/Zalman-ZM-MIC1-Mik ... B00029MTMQ) clipped to the cable. A fancy one is the Modmic (http://www.modmic.com/).

In german audio communities they mostly recommend headphones + clip mic. For low budgety I've seen recommendations for € 20 Superlux headphones (http://www.thomann.de/de/superlux_hd681.htm) that are supposed to be as good as a €100 headset.

IMHO having a fancy ATH-700 together with on board sound will give worse quality than an asus xonar with good, less expensive headphones. I used good Sennheisers + on board sound for a long time. 2 weeks ago I bought a xonar and the difference is as big as the difference between the Sennheisers and a €20 headset.

Btw one of the reasons why the ATH are so popular among competitive gamers is the lack of bass. With a software equalize like the one shipped with the xonar you can reduce the bass as much as you like.

I have Sennheiser PC 163D G4ME USB (Dolby Surround), amazing sound and I can have them on forever but a bit loose around the head.

If I bought a new set today I would probably go for this one instead, seems more comfortable:

+1 for Superlux. For their price point there are very few other headphones that compete. In my experience they sound better than a lot of other headphones I see recommended for twice their price.

<$150? Damn bro I spend less than $20. It's a headset.

You want to look for ones that close up the entire Ear though. Those are my favorite kinds. comfy and really null out outside noise.
