Monitor/Graphics Issue

Post by Róka »

So I recently finished building my new rig (http://pcpartpicker.com/user/R%C3%B3ka/saved/3kpy w/ Win8.1). Anyways, after finishing installation of all my games (Origin and Steam) I decided the first game to be run to be BF4. I launched from Origin, joined a server on battlelog all as normal and loaded into the game. However, it launched running in windowed mode so the first thing I did was go to video options and switch to full screen (1920x1080 native). The game went fullscreen and even a little bit over, and the colors were all washed out. This happened on my old PC but only with ArmA3 and I fixed it by using Alt+Enter instead of switching the in-game video option. That didn't work for BF4 and after this happened I tested out ArmA3 (it didn't work for that either). I'm forced to run both these games in fullscreen-window along with the DayZ standalone. AFAIK these are the only three games because LoL, PlanetSide2, Strike Vector, Hawken, etc. all work fine in fullscreen. For reference, these threads seem to be talking about the same thing but I've never had to ever deal with color correction (and they say as of now there is no fix! :x
https://forums.geforce.com/default/topi ... stom-color
https://forums.geforce.com/default/topi ... t-in-rift/
https://forums.geforce.com/default/topi ... resetting/

The display is set back to normal when I alt+tab or exit (except for DayZ, where I exit from fullscreen and it fucks up my entire desktop with this washed out color and cut-off fullscreen).

If you guys have any idea/experience with this your help would be appreciated!

What monitor are you using? What kind of cable are you using from monitor > GPU?

The cable is straight from GPU to monitor (i.e. not through mobo) and it's HDMI.
My monitor: http://www.insigniaproducts.com/product ... 30A12.html

EDIT: Confirmed to be an issue with BF:BC2 as well.

Try connecting it with the DVI cable.

I'd say try with different cables too, try both, DVI and VGA (if your monitor has the slot).
I've heard some monitors have small issues with HDMI, including mine.

Also try uninstalling LoL

Update monitor firmware - didn't fix anything.
New nVidia drivers released right now - didn't fix anything (although my hopes were raised sky-high when I read "fixed issues regarding incorrect resolutions displayed by monitors" in the driver notes).

Even though it says it supports DVI, the monitor has no DVI. I'll try VGA tomorrow and update everyone on that, but even if it works I would prefer to not use it due to tearing (and I don't want to turn on V-Syncs just for that).

Technically, I would be inclined to say that garbage out (video card) is garbage in (monitor). Yet with digital protocols and buggy drivers you cant always blame the hardware. Basically saying in the old world, its never your monitors fault.

Doing a Hail Mary with a DVI or VGA is always worth while. But this really sounds like either the video drivers is screwing you or the game/application is screwing you. Either way that's a software issue.

Personal note, my monitor is suppose to be 60Hz, yet windows and BF4 say its a 59HZ. Makes me wonder if trying a lower resolution or settings is worth your time pursuing.

Then again, I've had more than 1 budget Nvidia card that only had issues with the BF series.

When you installed the new drivers, did you do a custom install and checked the box where it says "Clean install", always do that.
Then just take what you need, for example you can skip the nvidia audio drivers since you don't have that anyway.

I usually unchecks everything except the driver since I don't have a 3D-monitor and I don't really care about the "Geforce experience", which basically is a program that looks for new software and drivers.

I agree on the driver/game faultiness. There's only one crappy weird 768 resolution that keeps the color - but it's really crappy. lol
I'll try a clean install but I always do and did that when I first installed BF4.

I've never install monitor drivers, but would attempt if they exist for yours.

generally I'm in agreement with Ash that it's probably a software issue somewhere due to the selective performance, but really I would look into getting a new monitor. and a real monitor at that. insignia is owned by best buy and as far back as I can remember they've always had a horrible reputation as far as quality. The fact that you say it doesn't have any DVI ports despite saying it supports DVI is proof enough of that.

Another thing is you are using a TV for your monitor, which in my experience never has really ended well except when I used a nice 120 Hz samsung quality TV.

Have you tried using a different monitor (real monitor, not TV) at all just to see what happens? Have you manually uninstalled your graphics drivers, rebooted your computer, redownloaded a fresh DL of the newest stable drivers and installed them? How about different HDMI cables? Does your TV come with any software to install on a computer if used with a computer, and do you have it installed?
woke up this morning, put on my slippers, walked in the kitchen and died

I'll be looking into other monitors as I was going to anyways. Suggestions would be nice. I bought this monitor back in 2012 and it was relatively cheap for its size and HDMI compatibility.
I have manually reinstalled drivers and I don't really have multiple HDMI cables - and there is no software to be seen on insignia website or even google-searches
EDIT: also maybe a relatively cheap dual-monitor set-up (doesn't have to be same size?)

My gpu also has problems with HDMI. While i think its driver problem, ive given up hope theyll fix it.
Thats why i suggest trying different type of cable, at least to see if that fixes it or not.
