User Control Panel - Messages

Greetings!
I have a weird problem where the status bar claims that I have "1 new message". Going into user control panel - messages, my inbox is empty so... where does the "1 new message" come from?
Anyone else having similar issue?

He whom shall remain nameless tried sending a mass pm to all users to announce the campaign, which breaks the database unless you do it in a very specific way. Supposedly the issue was being sorted but it's really rob's turf.
