Guys, this is pretty simple. Since forever, GC has been about an open and welcoming environment. Posting porn to the global server chat is precisely the opposite of that. We want our brand identity to be people playing organized battlefield, not people one-upping each other with random potentially offensive crap in TS.

Obviously, there isn't someone from the Senate sitting in every channel and monitoring PM traffic for compliance. We'd like to be able to trust that you will all exercise judgment in your use of our shared resources. If you don't, well, now you can't say you weren't warned ahead of time. Hopefully this will be the end of the matter, and we never actually have to enforce these rules.

Afaik no porn has been posted, just pictures of halfnude/seminude character...
Although, it's a bit interesting to see that people who has posted or laughed at the exact stuff that's up for discussion now, have changed side completely now, some are in the Senate now so i guess they have to show a more serious side than before.

Does boobs count as porn?

If it can't be shown on American TV, then there's a chance that someone might be offended by it and it would be illegal for a minor to view in some countries. So exposed breasts are probably a no go.

Dude I'm offended by most of the American TV I see get shown over here. That stuff is horrendous.

The latest that's been on during lunch times at work is this awful "reality" show about repo men. The episode at work today they were trying to repo a steamroller. Got into a fight with the guy who "owned" it, said dude crashed into his car. One of the other episodes had them trying to repo a speedboat, but the guy who "owned" the speedboat came along and saw, jumped into the speedboat and tried to take off, and one of the repomen UNTIED it from the peir. The majority of the show seems to be the people at the repo company screaming at each other, and the repo people screaming at the people whose stuff they are repo-ing. They've even got the typical "rough middle aged woman" in the show, and she's got a chin bigger than Jimmy Hill. All this time they're trying to pretend that crap is real. Very interesting how they get the really varied angles on all their shots, and how the camera men are never hassled by the people that are pointing guns and threatening to shoot the repo people when the cameras are right in their face.

THAT's offensive.

(There was a cool show about a Treehouse guy who massively nerded out while building treehouses for people though. I liked that one.

To be fair, you can't even really swear on American television, so I think that's a bad metric.

Seriously, I don't think we should try to force feed some ambiguous moral standards. I haven't seen or heard anything on TS that my delicate soul couldn't handle. This is not kindergarten and we're not here to educate people on how to behave. You don't like what someone is saying or posting? Mute him or don't open his links. It's as simple as that.

It's probably worth pointing out that we're also not enforcing any age limits for the game either.

The point is, we don't have rules against swearing. We have rules against porn. In some countries, that includes tame things like a little exposed nip.

We don't enforce age limits for the game. Fine. Maybe a parent is fine with their kid playing the game, but don't want them seeing porn.

I can't believe this thread is as hot as it is.

It's simple. Don't link to porn on TS. Don't link to other not safe for work/life material either. If you know everyone in your channel and think they're cool with seeing that stuff, whatever, but you should still let them know the nature of what you're posting. *cough* randomcekilinks *cough*

I think it would have made more sense to require that all porn/gore be labeled rather than enact a ban that no one has any intention of enforcing.

My take on this is a little different.

You show up for your first day of GC. Everyone is talking about strats and your squad is helping you get integrated. You play a few rounds and get hooked and are sitting here two years later.

or..

You show up for your first day of GC. Someone links you to a picture of a bunch of hotdogs shoved into someone's vagina. I suppose there's an off chance you think, "Mai gawd, I'm home", but really you're probably just confused and wondering wtf is up with this community.

We get ONE first impression. This isn't really about defining some arbitrary line of offensiveness, because obviously that will differ. This is like wearing a business suit to an interview even though you know damn well you'll be wearing jeans and a t-shirt to work every day. Don't post stuff to the public chat that you wouldn't bring to a job interview - and if you are truly warped enough or lack the judgment to figure this out, then this thread is your warning that we'll actually do something about it next time.

Testing limits is normal and sometimes good things come of it.

With the rationalization that's been pumped into this thread, what good is going to come of pushing this limit?

GC's birth ground rules are old rules that have been dormant (and have been tried before) because we'd rather not stifle individual thoughts. Yet the limits are being pushed (and most likely beyond any day) to an unknown goal that I cant see that benefits gaming.

Don't get me wrong, I've played Devil's advocate too many times and enjoyed it. If you think blowing out barriers benefits GC, lets hear it.
