Re: The Permanent Ban of ChampJr from any Association with GC

Following this review a set of links will be posted that will allow you to view the evidence for yourself.

Approximately 5 weeks ago word started filtering through to the Execs, TA’s, and Neutrals that a new member, ChampJr(forum name) aka Gen.ChampJr (in-game name), might be using ‘cheats’ to achieve the high scores he was getting in the game. An investigation was started and the findings have resulted in the Executive Senates decision to permanently ban him from any association with Global-Conflict.org .

When it first came to our attention our reaction was that it needed looking into so as to put a stop to such talk as we expected to find that he was simply another excellent player the likes of which Global Conflict seems to attract. We watched him play a little closer and through discussions with squad mates and others noted that he used some different tactics, used the support weapon and tended to camp outside a spawn point when possible rather than diving into the melees. We have no rules against that style of play so nothing more was made of it except the resolve to keep a close eye on him. However, the gossip continued and others started taking a closer look. This area of interest slowly developed into an investigation that went down two paths. Informal conversations were had with different members over the next short while and we found that the accusations of cheating were becoming more common-place. This reached a peak when some members of SFB decided they were going to boycott the NABO rather than play against him. These are very experienced players who quite simply believed that what they were seeing was not doable within the game regardless of skill level and therefore a ‘cheat’ must be in play.

Meanwhile others were trying hard to find actual determinative evidence of his cheating, or lack thereof. Demos were recorded through Battlerecorder, conversations were had with PunkBusted, and cheats like ‘aimbots’ and ‘foghacks’ were looked at. Unfortunately, none of these areas of investigation were conclusive in themselves. Finally, the TA’s and Neutrals spent countless hours working through the actual Battlerecorder files.

It was these final additional files that resulted in enough evidence to state that on the preponderance of evidence he was employing some sort of cheat. Anyone that has looked at them in any depth has come to the same conclusion: he was using an ‘aimbot’ that Punkbuster doesn’t catch.

Some may argue that none of the evidence by itself is conclusive. This is true, but that would be looking at things out of context. Our conclusion and the resulting ban are based on the simple preponderance of evidence; the experience and character of the individuals analyzing the evidence we do have; and the experience and character of numerous individuals that state that they are completely confident in their observations.

We should all recognize and feel comfortable with the fact that people have spent over 5 weeks looking into this. They have been bending over backwards in an attempt to do the right thing, to give him the benefit of doubt, and to cast the net wide which included talking to his friends and clan mates. Unfortunately, this massive effort didn’t reach a conclusion of innocence or indetermination.

At Global-Conflict we have always been proud of the fact that we are as non-hierarchical as we can possibly be while preserving some vestige of authority to allow us some discipline in order to remain constant and focused. With this principle in mind we have decided to release the demos for all to view and arrive at their own conclusions.

Some of you may disagree in various degrees with the findings but all we ask is that any responses are kept respectful of the time and energy that was put into seeing this done right.

The following is a directory of short videos taken from the battle recordings last Saturday. It also includes one of these demos in full. You can find it here.
