I still play the original ArmA, they do have a history of being pretty hard on machines. My previous machine more than exceeded the recommended system specs and I could still barely run it. In terms of online communities it seems to be more popular with Co-op mode than PvP. From what I've read...

* Cooperative multiplayer and team-based large scale multiplayer over entire map for 50 live players

From what I've gathered that 50 live players of 250 square km of land, which is why I'm assuming coop is more popular than PvP. It's a blast to play tho, much much much more realistic than any battlefield game, and far superior graphics (if you have the machine to handle it).

A very busy period of Arma 2 news seems to be started as preview after preview pops up. This one from a German Community.

Highlights:
  • - Intel 3GHz Dualcore CPU, 4GB Ram, Geforce GTX 280 GPU. Graphic settings on high and very high with Full HD support. The viewdistance was set at max 4000m.
    - The sudden appearance of textures and details (LOD's) has been reduced dramaticaly and will now happen with max capacity or in the far distance for example when you look through the bino's or use the free camera to "fly" over the area.
    - With the action menu the player is able to drag friendly units which have been shot into safety. You will move slowly backwards in a crouched state. While doing this you can still fire your weapons from the hip, of course this will not be very precise. Once in safety you can heal the wounded unit.
The same system works if a player is shot and will increase teamplay in MP and make it more easy for new players to survive a mission.
    - High Command:
    • With the use of the map the player can set waypoints for the troops to influence the battle. Every team under control will report contact and the radio message seem to be a lot less robotic as it was in OFP and Arma.
    • NATO symbolics to identify friendly and enemy troops is used. On the lower part of the screen the player is able to show his own squad members or complete squads.
    • The ordering system has been simplified, its now using a point and click system. You can use this for single units or complete squads.
    • Higher in rank the player will even be able to build complete bases with a free moving camera. This system was first introduced in Arma warfare and continued in Arma 2.
    - The default 2D mission editor has not been changed a lot but new in Arma 2 (its not sure though if it will be released together with the first release of the game) is the 3D editor. Using this the player is able to add units while in mission same as how we are able to do it in warfare mode. Also complex fortifications can easily be placed while using a submenu of pre-defined object setups.
    - The player will be able to do HALO jumps where it can controle its path. During the freefall animations and camarawork will give the player the impression of the speed during a freefall.
    - Realistic vehicle interiors
    - Reworked a more realistic and complexer VTOL for the Harrier.
    - The buildings on Chernarus seem to be at least partial dynamic destructible. Certain building will crumble partially and the leftovers from the buildings will still be enterable. But the largest portion of the building will destruct as how they do now in Arma.
    - The TOW Launcher has Steerable rockets through the optics.
    - Securom copy protection
    - No modding tools at release
    - Improved HDR
    - Improved handeling for armor
    - Features from VBS1 and VBS2 have been implemented for Arma 2 as well, tracers and scriptcommands for example

505 GAMES ARMED FOR ARMA II
MILITARY SIMULATION SHOOTER IS GIVEN 26TH JUNE RELEASE DATE
Milton Keynes, 29th April 2009 - 505 Games and Bohemia Interactive today confirmed 26th June as the long anticipated European release date for ArmA II. The sequel to Bohemia Interactive’s celebrated military shooter promises to deliver more of the authentic battlefield experience the series is famed for, while developing each area of game play with expansive new features.

Featuring the most realistic warfare ever, ArmA II promises to build on the excellent features that have made Bohemia Interactive a respected name among gamers. Players can expect in-depth team-based combat, a comprehensive playbook of military tactics and an enormous battlefield to push strategy to the limit.

ArmA II benefits from a 3rd generation game engine that has been in constant development for 10 years; no other developer can offer such a great heritage in creating open-world military shooters. The Bohemia engine has been recognised as a benchmark in producing realistic warfare simulations to such an extent that the developer has used its Real Virtuality engine as the basis for training simulators used by armies across the globe, including the United States Marine Corps, UK Ministry of Defence and Australian Defence Force.

This experience is also helping Bohemia Interactive to craft an incredibly detailed storyline, full of political intrigue and plot twists, which blurs the boundaries between fact and fiction. Set in the near future in a fictional post-Soviet country called Chernarus, players take on the role of a United States Marine Corps Force Recon squad, who are called to the country as a peacekeeping force to prevent further civilian casualties and ensure ongoing stability.

“It has been a pleasure building on the success of the first ArmA title,” commented Alex Price, Senior Global Brand Manager, 505 Games. “ArmA has such a vociferous community behind it that we new we had to get this one absolutely right. We are confident that the dedicated fans won’t be disappointed as will as any newcomers to the series.”

ArmA II will be released for 26th June exclusively for PC. For all the latest information please visit ARMA 2 Official Website - ARMA 2

Okay I have been following what you guys have been reporting on the game. I am definately excited, but I am curious. None of my local retailers and none of the online ones I have checked have any idea this game exsists. Most american websites dont even know when it is being released. Is this game not getting attention or a release in america? How am i going to get it? I WANT IT!
