Early Saturday for EU

Post by styphon »

EARLY BATTLE DAY FOR EU MEMBERS

Just a reminder to all EU players that this Saturday the battle day will be 1 hour early for all of you. Clocks went back in Europe last weekend, however GC will not change until this coming Sunday, when the NA guys change.

For non-NA players, it will be SBT -1 for this Saturdays battle.

17:00 UTC, it hasn't changed yet. You really should learn SBT though, it makes everything so much simpler.

It will be at 17:00 UTC, because it doesn't change until the following week when NA goes back an hour. If you know SBT then you shouldn't bother with UTC, it confuses things. Just turn up at SBT -1.

As a guy that don't live neither on Europe or USA this confuses me. Is the SBT always staying the same? Because that's what I think should happen, whoever is entering/leaving DST should adjust according. Otherwise I will have to change the time 3 times in a year, one for EU DST, one for USA DST and one for my country's DST. If the SBT stays always the same and people adjust according to their time then I just need to adjust to my DST.

Yes, that is the time that I thought it was. My question is if the SBT will always be 17h00 UTC or will it change with someone's DST?

It changes with the US DST in Fall and the EU DST in Spring.

The following battle on Nov 10 will be 18:00 UTC/GMT until next spring.

If you did not end DST this last weekend like most Europeans did, then Standard Battle Time will be the same this Saturday. This post is to remind people on EU DST that Standard Battle Time (SBT) will be different for this Saturday only.

The weekend after, the US will finally end DST, pushing the battle start to UTC/GMT to 18:00
If you never have DST in your region, you will see the battleday ping pong between 17:00 and 18:00 each year.
Hopefully we remember to remind people about the ping pong in advance.

In Spring, when Europeans start DST, the battle start will be 17:00

NABO will follow US DST times.
EUBO will follow EU DST times.

Yes, much confusion. Simplest I can restate the above:
Starting Next Tuesday, EUBO and NABO will be and hour later for non-DST people along with Saturday Main battle until Next spring.
Man I hope I got that right.

Ok, thanks, Ash!

As a suggestion I think it would be cool setting a time that wouldn't change, maybe choosing a timezone that doesn't have DST. I think it would be easier for everyone to know their SBT.

I agree it would make things logistically easier to have a static UTC/GMT time all year for a few members that dont have DST.
The problem is the majority player base is EU and NA and their time of day changes twice a year. Attendance has consistently shown attendance issues when starting or stopping by an hour offset. Adding to that problem, the EU DST and NA DST dont happen at the same time.

Due to life, work schedules, and sleep patterns forced by DST:
Its hard for EU's to stay up an hour later with DST's, they stay up really late as it is.
Its hard for NA's to join an hour earlier with DST''s, they cant get off work earlier or wake up sooner.

No matter what we do, someone will be confused. Comes down to how to keep the confusion down to a minimum number of members.

Twice a year, we will have to post and remind those people affected.
This weekend, its just the EU DST's affected for one Saturday battle. The following weekend, anyone not on the EU or NA DST will be affected.

Really wish DST never existed. Then this problem wouldnt exist.
