Thoughts on GC

Post by expandas »

We hear endless suggestions on how to be a better community, how to avoid GC drama, why certain rules need to exist, why certain players shouldn't do xyz, how <insert name here> is a <malicious noun>, etc., all the while we congregate in our pretty little corners and rationalize why it's someone else's fault. A couple threads pop up every now and then, usually one of the more popular flavors like TAs, airplay, and balancing, where parties throw their own two cents at an issue without coming up with a collective dollar at the end.

It's like a mass psychosis to me, a bland charade, a denial of reality.

What is GC but the longing for teamwork, the exasperated clench towards victory, to make new and old friendships. The GC dream is the opening of the soul to pain, to take off the adorning epaulettes of our egos, to expose our true thoughts and feelings, to truly feel and empathize with one another. To be a part of GC is to take a step forward, overcome challenges, and shed our prejudices, cliques, and grudges so the camaraderie and joys can be.

And so we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.

I'm not an end speech giver here, I'll leave that to Brummie, Ghoul, and other founders.
So I will give a long winded individual opinion hopefully to give people a train of thought to chew on and discuss/rebut with theirs.

Theres always a battle between order and chaos. Overall, life is never truly happy in either camp. Order works great at the time if you agree with it. When you don't agree with it, you fall into the chaos camp. And I believe GC has collected a lot of members that are willing to entertain others opinions because GC is a collective of worldwide thinking.

GC hits stages of psychosis. We can easily and have dragging toes at some levels dictated order from chaos because of forum anger. That, IMHO (I usually just say IMO), is not what GC wants. When the masses demands response for order, it starts to happen at a crawl. When order starts to be dictated and the rest is labeled as chaos its a dangerous line to cross. Yet to exist and function, GC needs to know each individuals fun factor.

GC is a grand experiment at a social level. I'm amazed at the many volunteers that lay out time, effort, and the extra mile you see no where else to make all individuals be accepted despite the personal conflicts that it creates. This is all entirely done without banner ads or endorsements because GC is not about making money. Many wonder what GC is and what its agenda is. I believe from the day I joined in the BF1942 days that GC is about battling with friends and non-friends to have an unique experience that you cant find elsewhere. Others wonder if theres a captain at the wheel, I'd say we all are the captains if we choose to step up.
