Sports.

Post by Tea-Assault »

I wanted to start this thread because I live in the UK. Over here we are really into our rugby and football (that's "soccer" for you Americans) but I rarely hear of anyone in the UK doing much else. This got me thinking, as many of us in GC live in many different countries, each with their own weather and stuff, I wanted to find out what people do elsewhere! I have no idea what sports many of you guys watch/enjoy/play out there and I thought it would be really interesting to see what sports are happening elsewhere in the world, and what you find interesting. Also feel free to post any weird or funny stuff that you know about such as this http://www.worldgravywrestling.com/

oh and if you have any pictures of epic moments in those sports please feel free to share :D

I enjoy watching and following the whole American Football thing. That's "football" for you silly folks living in the states. I root for a team called the Minnesota Vikings. Right now, they're damn near the most embarrassing team in the NFL.

I used to be a goalie in ice hockey, a pretty good one aswell, unfortunately i got bored of going to practices every day, it was really time consuming and I liked gaming more so I just quit. 8)

Here's an epic moment from Sweden vs. Canada in the World Championship this year.

Whirlyball! http://whirlyballseattle.com/whirlyball.html
Whirlyball, dubbed "the world’s only totally mechanized team sport", is best described as a combination of Basketball, Hockey and Jai-Alai played while riding an electrically powered machine, similar to a bumper car, called a WhirlyBug. Although the WhirlyBug resembles a bumper car, it is a far superior machine. Quicker, stronger and far more maneuverable, the WhirlyBug powers you and your team down court in a five on five game.

I used to be a hockey goalie as well, until I took a puck in the gonads.

Unfortunately it's in Malmö, so I won't actually go there to watch it. Maybe watch a few games on TV, especially if sweden goes up against canada.

I enjoyed getting a nice 80 mph puck in my gonads. I remember that I did not use proper protection for them either, I used the jockstraps that are supposed to be used by those guys that kept shooting pucks at me.

Like Bock, I'm currently following American Football. I've heard there was quite a turnout in London for the Minnesota Vikings vs. Pittsburgh Steelers game a few weeks ago. This week, there's going to be the San Francisco 49ers vs. Jacksonville Jaguars.

I must say though, it's a shame that matchups in London aren't the best. Minnesota and Pittsburgh never won a game before that match, and this week's game should be pretty much a shutout since the 49ers are really good and the Jaguars are undergoing a rebuilding phase.

Oh whirlyball. What a grand game... I got to drink a bunch of beer and play that as part of an office "team building" outing once. A lot of fun with a good chance of whiplash.

HA!

Giants fan. Thanks for making us look marginally less embarrassing by comparison.

I play paintball, which may not count as a sport.

Detroit Red Wings! Original Six all the way!!!

And I enjoy watching the 'real' football on the telly; they've started broadcasting Barclay's Premier League Games.

Go Man U!

I heard it only exists in Seattle and the Midwest. The rest of the country/world is missing out.
