warcon from what I can see doesn't allow you to create a server and allow additional clients to connect to it, nor does it have the ability to handle different levels of administration. Essentially we would have multiple people connecting to the server not only from game clients but also RCON clients as well as each TA would need access to it as well as HC and other things.

This is the reason for PROCON rather than having the clients all connect to the game server's RCON port we only have the PROCON server connecting to the game servers RCON port. Everybody else connects to the PROCON server also we can issue out different levels of access, additional I found this in the help log:

"WaRCon is NOT supposed to handle general FFA server administration regarding maplist, banlist, reserved slots etc., so use one of the other admin tools for this kind of things."

We regularly change the maplist so we can't use this at all in terms of server administration. We could use this differently for logging but I know PROCON already logs everything in a text file.

if the TA's can manage to set up servers on time and not make mistakes, then use the tools you have used so far if not consider alternatives.
and yes you can use warcon to set up the maplist for the day beforehand (just ask the general for it) and im pretty sure you can use both tools concurrently

Unfortunately generals always can change their minds about what they want to attack during the battleday, also if a DLC map is played and a member of the community doesn't have said DLC they cant connect to the server till said map is removed from the map list.

Even if we run warcon only a very limited number of people not TA's would have access to that warcon instance due to it running concurrently with critical GC software.

from the GUI, warcon and procon are setting up the server the same way. There is no gain there, procon is more flexible in general management (changing the maplist on the fly).

The presets in warcon need to be provided by the warcon team (they mention an esl8v8 present an so on). One can request presets for your our league, which is what we would need to do. Then a simple in-game command makes it happen.

I dont think it will improve server management, which, honestly, was never a real problem. The few days when settings were messed up are easy to remember, but it ran smoothly for the most part. A lot of awkward round-restarting is done because of the commander slot behavior. Also people should not play too much with the server setting at Thur. practice...

TAs don't really ever screw with the server settings mid BD. The only one that goes awry occasionally is the ticket count when the switch from 32 to 64 is made (and the ticket count in RUSH that one time). If a TA forgets to change the count in procon, they'll forget in warcon.

Although the benefit of "Press this button to make 99% of the settings correct" would be nice if we want to switch from pub to GC. Having said that, there are scripts that were made at the start of C5 by matsif which you copy and paste into NFO to set up those 99%.

I don't really know other pros and cons of either system so don't really mind which is used provided we can change maps on the go (last campaign, the map list at any one time contained the map we were playing and nothing else).

Here's another thing I would like to see:

I would like to see the ball start rolling for BF4C5. Why? Because currently you guys have NO competition on Saturdays for 32v32. 21CW just had to cancel their campaign due to imbalance and both General's resigning so they have to go find 2 new Generals again. LevelBF still hasn't even talked about starting yet so this is honestly the best chance GC has of getting lots of new people without competing with other communities.

Cool. Or campaign timeline should be up soon now that generals have been selected. Hopefully we'll hit the sweet spot.

i'd like to see the people shaping up this campaign more involved in this thread, especially the two generals, both posting and asking for feedback.

Both TheOne and I have kinda held back on posting in this thread, because we wanted to see where the community was going and if there are any majority oppinions on campaign systems and so on.

Since the too of us don't have very strong feelings about this, we'd be happy to do what the community wants.

Sloth set up a poll to that end, just to gauge interest: http://global-conflict.org/viewtopic.php?f=370&t=25657

If the majority doesn't want to bother with a Risk system, we'll come up with something that ensures a wider variety of maps.
