What are Galactic Credits?
How do the ships in the pre-order packages perform/look?
Why can you walk outside your ship? Is exiting the ship and walking around the carrier part of the game?
Is it persistent? If so, in what way?
How many players in a battle?
Wtf is "Squadron 42"?
Is this really being compared to a game that came out in 1993 on DOS? Is there not a more recent game that is similar? I assume this is similar to the Tie Fighter and X-Wing series but it's difficult to say as there is zero actual gameplay footage.

I checked the Kickstarter FAQ and the main site and couldn't find answers to any of this. Maybe I'm just blind but answers would be appreciated.

Galactic Credits are the in-game currency.
No idea, other than the constellation is a Millennium Falcon sized ship with turrets that can be manned by friends, plus a docking bay for a smaller ship.
Yes, being able to walk around is part of the game.
Yes it's persistent. It's an online world where you can do whatever you want, trade, pirate, fight for the military, whatever!
60-100
Squadron 42 is the single player part of the game where you "sign up" for a military tour. You can play the missions off line or on line with friends jumping in and taking over AI wingmen.
Chris Roberts has been out of the game industry for 10 years now making films, which is why comparisons are being made to such old games. Squadron 42 is effectively a remake of the Wing Commander games, whereas the persistent universe part is more towards Freelancer and Privateer.

All this information is out there. This will probably answer a lot of your questions.

There is actual game play footage. The trailer on the front page of the site and kickstarter, the start of that is actual in game play. Also watch the rest of the videos on kickstarter because they are also using in game footage.

It sounds like Galactic Credits will be purchasable with RL money which makes me hesitant to buy the game up front. I see that there will be no monthly fees and all content will be unlockable by playing the game, I'm guessing they are trying to achieve a LoL like profit scheme with added cost up front? I guess it's to fund further development of the game. But I've always been a bit suspect of microtransaction funded material.

You say it's persistent and that the player can trade, pirate, fight for a military, etc. But it's going to be hosted on private servers? I guess it kind of sounds like Minecraft in that regard. I can't think of another game with similar persistence with private multiplayer servers hosting dozens of people.

Do you have a source on the 60-100 number? Also, will my character be persistent across servers?

All the videos I've found, including the kickstarter introduction, is just in engine rendered footage, not actual gameplay. I would really like to see an example dog fight with someone piloting from the cockpit view rather than choreographed machinima.

I know I sound like I'm being overly harsh, but this game sounds too good to be true. I absolutely loved the X-Wing and Tie Fighter series and haven't had a similar experience since they were released in the late 90s. If this were a similar experience, I'd be more than happy to fork over some cash. I'm tempted to drop money on the project, I just wish there was something more solid to go on. Not being familiar with the developer doesn't help, but he seems to have a good reputation on the internets...

P.S.- I just found the root RSI page with a link to their forums. I'll go read those. Maybe I'm just tired, but their site layout is confusing to me. :X

Found some straight gameplay at the GDC demo:

I guess it's too early to expect intership gun fighting. I really wish the cockpit had a smaller profile, it seems very hard to see outside. Also, that place holder laser sound was really weak. Pew Pew! :p

Apparently, it is going to support the Occulus Rift. I am interested in this and was hoping to see a new concept developed around it. I think it would lend itself perfectly to a space sim! The implications of its are quite inspiring!

I'm going to sleep on it, but if they continue to respond and interact with the community at their current level, I think they could make something very special. I'm starting to get excited. :)

Edit: This post provides some insight in things I was questioning in TS yesterday. They are at least aware of the issues I saw and seem to have a good aesthetic reason for them.

2nd Edit: The Star Citizen sub reddit is where I got a lot of this information for those wondering. There seems to be quite a few people asking the same questions I had, so at least I know I'm not alone. :p

I've always wanted to command a space carrier; it takes so many resources and time to pilot a Titan in EVE and I've never had the opportunity. The Constellation sounds like a lot of fun if you want to play as an admiral. The fleet will probably need one to be combat effective. Plus you get 10k credits and I'd be very surprised if that isn't more than enough to purchase a nice fighter.

Haha i was also thinking about EVE when i saw this game! it seems that the Constellation can only hold one other ship but i hope that they will have larger playable Carriers.

The constellation actually comes with a light fighter docked to it, although it's not sure yet whether it will be standard or you need to buy an upgrade to get that fighter. Pretty sure though that the starting credits you get with the constellation packages will be enough to get most upgrades.
The last update I've seen on costs for a new ship is about 10,000 to 15,000 credits for the hull, it wasn't mentioned whether this is just a bare hull with no engines, weapons, etc. or a ready to go space ship.
I'll be getting a "Wingnut" package as well after next payday, just to be able to fly around and shoot stuff for fun.

Btw, about the developer, Chris Roberts is the father of space combat sims, he pretty much started the genre with Wing Commander in 1990 and also developed WC2, WC3, WC4, Starlancer and Freelancer. If this would have been some upstart company I wouldn't be throwing this much money at it, but Chris Roberts is the most experienced and successful developer of space combat sims and I believe he would be the safest bet to make a game like this. And it is a bet of course, there are no guarantees so if you do decide to support this game you should make sure you don't spend more money than you're comfortable with to loose.
I'm just one of those idiots out there who simply want this game to be made ;)

Chris Roberts has already confirmed that it will be possible for players to acquire and fly capital ships, all capital ships in the game, including the bengal class carrier from the demo, have a captain's seat. It hasn't been decided yet though what the maximum size of player flyable cap ships will be.
Also the single player campaign will have FPS combat onboard capital ships.

I saw a fan made trailer with footage of actual combat. I don't know where he got that footage though.

When you guys decide, which package to take, tell me, so i can add you to the Fleet!

I just imagine this situation:
2 Traders are jumping into a system. Pirate players/AI think they are easy prey and engage.
2 Seconds Later the Big Wave is Jumping in to save the day.
EPIC

Just saw this when I was browsing reddit, this might be interesting for you guys :)
http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/1 ... commander/
It's an AMA (ask me anything) from Chris Roberts. It just started 20 minutes ago, so he's still answering questions.

Edit: crap reddit is down, I don't know how popular this guy is... But there is an possibility that because of his AMA thread there is so much traffic that reddit doesn't work properly.

Edit 2: It looks like this guy is really popular :) Reddit is down because of his AMA, so if you still want to read his answers then take a look at this. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1WI7 ... edit?pli=1

I've officially pledged and stuck with the $60 package. BUT.. I'm interested in the Lancer package since I have an obsession with being economical and making $$$.
