I thought it was going to be buy to play where you just buy the game and then there's no monthly fees similar to guild wars.

this is what I hear as well, although I'd be stunned if there wasn't some sort of microtransaction cash shop involved.

It'd be worth it anyways. I signed up on day 1 which was about a week ago.
PS. I also got the status bar to glitch and give me an excellent rating to give me the best chance at acquiring beta access

I signed up. The feature that interest me the most is not having to choose servers. So you can play with friends and multiple guilds. Every time I've played a MMO my friends end up with characters on different servers.
