Happy 20th, Doom.

Post by Fields »

Such fond memories... renting it on psx and being scared to death while playing. Beating it on my n64, which I still have the cartridge.

Anyways, go play it. It's been open source forever and there's a port for virtually every x86 processor device & ios.

Was the first video game I ever played and it was on a PC. I was only around 6 I think. My dad had just bought Doom 2 which had just come out and decided to let me play both of them. Cause surely running around killing demons at 6 is the best parenting choice ever. It's part of the reason I'm so much more fond of PC games than consoles.

Actually been playing all of the classic ones lately. Planned on marking the anniverseray with a marathon playthrough of Doom 1 all episodes through to Doom 3 Ressurection of Evil. Ended up having a final today though that made me completely forget that it was the 10th... so didn't end up doing it.

DOOM 2 was my first "multiplayer" game!
Four computers on an IPX network at school!

IDDQD - immortality
IDKFA - all weapons and ammo

Will never forget those codes :D

Ya, we had a discussion in private and we both misunderstood each other.
I probably wrote it clumsy because what I meant is games in "hard case", nowadays all games are for download and have been for some time. ;)

I miss good old times where the marketing that game developers had, actually had to be good. They had to make a fraking cool ass giant cardboard box that would get you interested. Manuals were detailed and there was almost always backstories/lore etc. included.

Definitely had more charm than a steam library.
