Homeworld Remastered

Post by StarfisherEcho »

Homeworld was my first love. It was everything a game should be. Nothing, not even the sequels, came close.

And now they're re-releasing it with better graphics and updated multiplayer.

Anyone else going to buy it?

Amazing game. I had the pleasure of getting on the Alpha and closed Beta for that game. Saw it at a E3 convention and talked to the developers a bunch which led me to getting in on the testing. I was always bummed that there wasn't more interaction with moons and planets but was told that computers just didn't have the processing power to be able to do that stuff back then. Probably the most mesmerizing space game ever, just beautiful to watch the battles unfold. I can't think of a better Space RTS game.

On that note, I'd like to see Decent brought back from the grave (my fav FPS Space game)

Homeworld 1+2 were a good draw. Really wanted it to be the game for its time as it played sweet, bugs overcame my passion.

For fighting in space and around planets real time, my fun was in darkspace.net. Really had a good few years but numbers issues reared its head. May jump back in as I'm drawned to it every couple years. Sorta like DDO for me, fun to go back to after a year break.

Eve while somehow looking good, just didn't keep me in. May need to try her again as its been several years, but I fear the 40 hour week game these days.

Awesome! Had no idea this was happening... Although I only had demo version (I think, or I just couldn't get past a certain point in game) I played it extensively and loved every minute of it.

The mothership - is standing by...

Going to get it at some point, but swamped with games and other things currently. Hoping I can make it wait and it'll show up on a steam sale.

Good space rts games are few and far inbetween, and homeworld series is still one of the few franchises to have done 3d maps which is sort of astonishing.

I used to play this on LAN with all my mates, it was an amazing game and all I ever did was tech up my ships whilst they fought and came in to bring the hurt when things got hard  definitely looking at buying it

It's pretty beautiful. Replaying the HW1 campaign now.

If you played a lot of HW2 it will feel a lot like a prettier HW2. But I always liked HW1's story, so seeing it rendered in such quality is bringing a tear to my eye. The first few missions when space is black and empty are just awesome. HW2 and the later bits of HW1 were too "space is like a sunset" for my taste.

Anyway, enjoying it so far. Might carve myself an hour to play some MP on the weekend even!

HW1 gameplay is screwed. mainly the formations:
fighters have a tough time aligning in formations, too many ships and few of them will continue to strafe close to their position but won't make it in.
As soon as formation starts moving, some ships go ahead, changing course also loosen formation. Set sphere formation to guard a ship - the sphere is dragging behind the ship. And of course as soon as fighting starts - nothing left of the formation.

The Kadesh missions are surprisingly easy now. The E motherships didn't attack my ship with their lasers and i haven't seen a single E resource collector, i think they ran out of money and after hyper jump just float at the other end of the map waiting for me to put em out of their misery.

Not sure if my frigates spontaneously explode or just really easy to kill now.

multiplayer is apparently region locked, can't see the same games as gwyn and we couldn't get into a match with either of us hosting.
