The Pacific Standard Job: How we do it

Post by CrookedBarrel »

A list of the methods we use that aren't in the standard mission briefing for the Pacific Standard Job:

General
  • The host should always make sure to set the difficulty to hard and the clothing to Player Saved
Setup #1 - Vans
Vehicle: Any. Do not take the armored Kuruma as the navigator has to take pictures in first person, the armor plating will make this difficult.
Clothing: Any
  • When all 4 Vans have been found and photographed, after Lester identifies the correct one and the driver is killed, only one player should enter the van. The game will give that player(and only that player) a wanted level. This player will then exit the van and another will take his place to drive it to Lester's factory.
  • At no point should the player with the wanted level re-enter the van, nor any other player enter with him, as this will transmit the wanted level to both players as per standard GTA V mechanics. The player with the wanted level should also refrain from following or otherwise getting close to the van, to prevent spawning police getting hit by the van driver and giving them a wanted level. After attaining the wanted level, the player's only job is to stay alive.
Setup #2 - Signal
Vehicle: Armored Kuruma
Clothing: Heavy Utility Vest
  • Follow the initial GPS route to the western highway, ignore the marked jetskis and continue up the coast beyond fort Zancudo
  • Arriving at the beach next to Avi's island, park your car facing east. Wait for your teammates to arrive, and take a jetski to the island
  • Remember the player that get close to the blue circle marker for Avi's shack will have Avi following them for the rest of the mission. He becomes their responsibility.
  • The cutscene will spawn you in a police boat which only carries 4 people total, which will require one player to take a jetski.
  • It's a good idea at this stage to have the player taking the jetski to blow up the police helicopter first
  • Use the boat(And jetski) to get to the beach where your cars are parked and make sure Avi gets into one of them
  • Proceed east, through the canyon along the river to Grapeseed. Usually no police will spawn aside from those scripted to be at the bridge across the river. Even these will not pursue you.
  • When you get close to Grapeseed, police will start spawning and you need to lose them. As you will have a 3 star wanted level, helicopters will spawn, which makes this difficult. A strategy I personally prefer is to have the player leading Avi to proceed to the final drop-off point, and to use the barn/garage to hide in. This wild shield you from the helicopters and the police cannot see you in it. The 3 remaining players should help by killing police cars and foot patrols trying to get close to the barn.
There is an alternate method using a helicopter that spawns on the medical center, which is supposedly faster, however the helicopter is very vulnerable to enemy fire, so great care must be taken to keep it in a flyable state. The preferred and safest method is as described above.

Setup #3 - Hack
Vehicle: Armored Kuruma for all except the van driver, who should choose a fast vehicle.
Clothing: Heavy Utility Vest
  • The designated van driver(which by default will be the host) should proceed to Lester's factory to pick up the van
  • All other players ignore the GPS and drive directly to the mission area to clear enemies.
  • After the swap, players sitting in the rear of the black van will open the rear doors to shoot out, exposing them to enemy fire. I personally recommend all passengers to simply hold X to duck and not shoot at all. If the driver can keep the van moving, the enemies are not a real threat.
Setup #4 - Convoy
Vehicle: Armored Kuruma
Clothing: Heavy Utility Vest
  • After all players have arrived at the bridge, choose whether to shoot the first helicopter using sniper rifles, or to proceed and risk it showing up while still swapping vehicles.
  • I recommend against driving the Kuruma after the objective truck has been taken. It is vulnerable to the explosive rounds of the helicopters and presents an additional target. On hard the mission will fail if you get blown up.
  • The gunner of the Insurgent should at all times prioritise the helicopters. The jeeps are a minor threat by comparison.
When shooting jeeps or other vehicles, remember the objective truck is vulnerable and will take damage if they explode next to it.
  • The driver of the Insurgent should make sure the gunner has a good angle on the helicopters, without trees or hills in the way.
  • The driver of the objective truck should follow the insurgent, making sure to keep distance from vehicles that may explode. If need be, take cover behind a hill to break the helicopter's line of sight while the gunner takes it down.
  • When the objective changes from "Escape Merryweather" to delivering the truck, the gunner can get inside the Insurgent by pressing H. After this point enemies will no longer spawn, so it is safer in case the Insurgent is rolled.
Setup #5 - Bikes
Vehicle: Armored Kuruma
Clothing: Heavy Utility Vest
  • After clearing the compound of enemies and taking the bikes, wait at the exit until all players are ready. Once you enter the road, enemies start spawning, which will make it much harder for anyone departing late to reach their destination.
  • Personally I've found it useful to drive motorcycles in first person, as it seems easier to judge gaps you can drive through.
Finale - Pacific Standard
Vehicle: Any
Clothing: Heavy Utility Vest
  • Players on crowd control should use a rocket launcher to aim at the hostages, this will pacify them at least as much as shooting around them.
  • Armed guards will spawn in the upstairs area once the first gate is open and come down the stairs into the teller area, make sure one of the crowd control players kills them while also keeping the two hostages in the teller area pacified.
  • Only one player should carry the money, the demolitions role is most suited for this as they will need to open the final gate. The hacker can go back upstairs and possibly assist with the armed guards, once the hack is done.
  • When leaving the bank, the player carrying the money stays inside while the other players clear the street.
  • It is possible for the player carrying the money to remain inside the bank. This is the safest tactic and usually allows you to keep all the money.
  • It is very important that the player staying inside the bank leaves it once by walking out the door and back in. Otherwise the mission will fail for not leaving the bank. This can be done quickly once the other players are in the first alley.
  • Player following the alleyways to the bikes should take shortcuts, making sure the yellow markers are triggered each time:
Hop the green fence onto the roof of the building below, and off the roof over the second fence. I believe holding sprint will make you combat roll instead of falling flat on your face. After the second fence, run up the stairs straight ahead of you to trigger the marker. There are cops on the other side, so don't run up too high or next to the stairs.
Proceed to the intersections and take out the cops and helicopter dropping SWAT. Run into the final alley; A cop car will spawn at the end of it and drive toward you, have your rocket launcher ready.
  • Once you get to the bikes, stand clear and blow them up. Yes, blow them up. This will result in the next objective getting triggered.
  • If you have the player carrying the money with you, proceed to the player apartment and wait for the armored Kuruma to spawn outside.
Otherwise, fail the mission(only after blowing up all the bikes). This will make all players respawn at the bikes.
  • When driving the Kuruma, follow the GPS route at least closely enough to trigger all the yellow checkpoints along the way. Some people ignore this completely, however triggering the final checkpoint will despawn all cops and allow you to get into the boat without taking damage.

New Sultan and Banshee Customizable Wide Body Race Cars

Sultan's pretty good apparently ok but not competitive in the super class both cars get put in, Banchee is somehow slower than the stock/original Banchee. GG R*.

Customizable at Benny's, with prices to match. (760-ish k for Sultan upgrade from 12k base car, 560-ish for Banchee from 105k base car).

Oh, there's a new adversary mode too. If anyone cares.

Currently there may be a bug causing people to lose their customizations and having to rebuy them, wait for a patch or risk it, your choice.
