Way back, in the days of high adventure and lost souls, if you survived a camp in =GC= combat you earned friends for life.

Brummie, Tubesteak, Ghoul were the admin when I started. That is 12 years gone now. GC was vision and hard work. An independent and free gaming community for those willing to contribute their skills and time. Here it is, still going. Who has next?

Sorry to disagree there Mr Thur. Rickey was more blunt and to the point. It was Redman that waxed so lyrically.

Well my memory is shot, wasn't all that good to begin with. Good to see some old timey friends still kicking about the place.

So somebody in charge tell me what the hell is going here?

We are collectively holding our breath to see if we can fire up the community using BF1 for future campaigns. Its not looking good at the moment since EA has removed all 3rd party server rentals and making them all in house. They have not been forthcoming with any information about server controls (like restarting rounds or kicking people) and there will not be any rentals even available till November.

Good to see you still kicking Thur, Brummie

I saw some other discussions about the servers. Didn't look good. Has anyone contacted EA directly? See if their dev team wants to work with the legend that is Global Conflict! Ha. that would be awesome though. Get some inside leverage on how a game gets put out. The market is ever changing. I think there is a growing place for community gaming, community control, that will make them money. BF has never been a 'light' game concept.

Ah. just spit balling a bit. Good to hear from you Ghoul. Brummie. Cheesy. Goggles ...everyone.

I had sent a PM to the community manager after the first day of the beta asking similar things, due to how in BF4 we got offered a chance to play on a private server in its beta and I was the POC from our side of things (since we didn't have direct admin control, had to ask people to do things for us). I got no response. he also seems to have his hands tied about the lack of actual server info (past the part where rentable servers aren't even available at launch), either EA is telling him he can't say anything or they simply aren't communicating to him.

basically BF1 is a lost cause until proven otherwise. judging from the beta, the game is designed for 30 minute a week console players, not people who want to play the game in a more organized fashion. and with no server control known past being able to rent one at some point post-launch, there's no reason to think about it until we get some sort of info.

community gaming in some form or another (not just how we do things) is what kept BF2 running past BF2142 and what keeps servers around in BC2, BF3, and BF4. don't believe me, fire up BF4 and check the amount of populated servers for the ranked (user administrated) setting vs the official (basically no admin powers but gets the server into matchmaking) setting. EA seems to not view community gaming as a worthwhile subject to capitalize on, otherwise we would have had server info months ago.

Thanks for the update matsif. Same stories we have been hearing since bf2. They see a loss in tun over to the next release. Backwards thinking IMO. Perhaps we should try a different tac? Any ideas? I have a theory. There is a natural tendency to not socialize unless absolutely necessary. People would rather play games anonymously. No risk of failure. There are literally thousands of games at our fingertips that give the 'game' experience without having to talk to a real person. It's too easy, and ultimately unfulfilling. Nothing worth doing is easy. Perhaps we go against that grain. "Hey we are GC and we will make you talk to people and laugh as you get your virtual ass kicked." or "Virtual training for the real world that kicks your butt." HA! I hope this makes some sense.

The discussion board looks dead to me. Is anyone playing BF1?
