What computer peripherals/equipment do you use?

Post by knorren »

So, this is a topic where you can brag about what computer peripherals you have, you could also add a comment on it, like how you feel about the product which can help if someone is looking for something new but don't know yet what to buy. :)

Mouse: Logitech G500
- I've been a Logitech fanboy och mice since before the MX500 and since the design hasn't changed much since MX500 you know you can always get the hang of it really fast.

Mouse mat: Razer Scarab Battlefield 3 Edition
- Big enough for me but not for everyone, some people have bigger mats than my whole table!

Keyboard: Logitech G710+, Cherry MX Brown high speed mechanical keys
- Just recently bought this, had the Razer Blackwidow before but that "broke" cause of "sugar-in-water-accident" which gave me sticky keys and it was quite noisy. This new G710+ is way more quiet, has led lightning and just feels better.
Has one extra usb-slot for mouse/cam/whatever.
Price is about the same as Razer Blackwidow.

Speakers: Logitech Z-623 2.1 THX Certified
- I've had Logitech Speakers for as long as can remember and these are just better than anything I've heard before, but as always, the sound is not for everyone cause there are so many other brands out there today like Corsair, Bose or others with same or better quality.
I use these for the ingame sound with onboard sound device.

Headset: Creative Fatal1ty Gaming Headset with usb-device from Sennheiser PC-163D (dolby surround), my Sennheisers are on warranty repair, right side died.
The surround feeling is quite amazing imo, while on TS it feels like everone is sitting beside you, almost like you are on a LAN-party.
I use my headset primarily for VoIP, not so much for ingame sound.

Gigabyte Mouse 62000 something something - It's cool I guess. Would recommend something else, if I had something else.
No speakers :(
Some Gamdias headset idk I didn't buy it. - Great for music. Terrible mic, it fell off a few days ago.
Some Logitech CoD mw3 keyboard. Fancy lights 'n shet. - It's a keyboard. If you like shiny green lights on buttons, it's for you.
S&W No-Bull mouse pad. - pewpew

And a strange Macgyver'd (More like Macgruber'd) Home cockpit controls from a Microsoft Precision 2 and a Logitech 3D extreme joysticks.
Long-shafted Cyclic and foot pedals made from PVC pipe. It's Ghetto as feck, but it works. (For like a year now!)

GPU's: 2x GTX 680 4GB (EVGA), SLI - At the time I bought these I was planning to run everything in 3 monitor surround, that's why I went with SLI and 4GB of VRAM instead of the standard 2GB at the time. I stopped using Surround about 6 months after building the computer- too many compatibility problems, not enough benefit. 4GB of VRAM rarely gets utilized with 1080 resolutions (the only game that manages to come close is Civilization V). SLI also (rarely) has some compatibility problems. This setup is capable of higher resolutions (I could do 4K) but with current monitor technology/prices it's not feasible. I really love these GPU's and I'm a fan of Nvidia's technology, but I could have saved myself some dough by using a single card or buying the 2GB versions.

Monitors: 1x ASUS VG278HE, 2x ASUS VS239H-P - I started out with 3x VS23's when I was using Surround. They were great for that purpose, but when I decided Surround wasn't working out I opted for high refresh rate (better for FPS gaming) on a single large monitor. I replaced my center 23" 60hz IPS with a 27" 144hz TN (kept the 2 side monitors). I definitely recommend high refresh monitors- makes Battlefield appear smoother- though you'll sacrifice some color depth/contrast. Having 3 monitors is great even without Surround.

Keyboard: Logitech G710+ - I upgraded a few months ago from my Microsoft Sidewinder X4 that was wearing out. Many people are religious about mechanical keyboards, I don't buy into it. The Logitechs are inexpensive but durable entry level mechanical boards with good features (I really wanted to keep the 10-key and Macro's, which most other mechanicals don't have). It's good for the most part- keys are more responsive (most of the time) and it's not terribly loud with the clackity-clack (though sometimes people on TS will hear me typing).

Quick mention- Logitech used to put screens on their gaming keyboards, but now that everyone has a smart phone and/or tablet, they've quit using onboard screens and started developing an app. Check out the Logitech ARX Control if you're into that sort of thing. I don't think you even need to own a Logitech product to utilize the app.

Headset: Logitech H800 - Good headset for general use, not necessarily for gaming. I'll probably upgrade to a better set some time soon. Open to suggestion.

Mouse: Razer Imperator - Bought it crazy cheap years ago. Gets the job done. Should probably be replaced.

Mouse Pad: Glorious Extended Gaming Mouse Mat - Huge so I never run out of mouse space. Have had weights on the edges for months and it still doesn't lay completely flat without them. Idiots who sell it put their giant-assed logo in the lower-right corner so that your mouse drags on it; rotated 180 so stupid logo is under keyboard. Supposedly machine washable but who does that? Bought it on sale for cheap, no ragrets.

Guts/Other: 3770K not OC'd 'cause I'm lazy, ASRock Z77 Fatal1ty Pro, 16GB RAM because Adobe Premiere loves ram, some SSD's & HDD's to store all the bits.

And I'll end with this: If you don't have an SSD, do yourself the best computer-related favor you've ever done and get one. Running your operating system (and some games, like BF4) from an SSD is an amazing improvement over an HDD. An analogy I read recently was that upgrading to an SSD was like finally releasing a car's parking brake after driving around for years with the brakes on. Seriously- huge improvement, best money spent on improving your computing quality of life (though it will not necessarily improve gaming performance).

Seconded.

Do you use them in BF4(How does that combine with a mouse?), or do you fly an actual sim?

Mouse: Logitech G500
My first "proper" mouse. It has weights which were good for a laugh but I guess it may be nice if you like a heavier/lighter mouse. Fits in my hand nicely. Only (small) complaint is that sometimes my pinkey and right ring finger roll over each. Could do with being a bit more flared on the right to stop this but generally very happy with it.

Mouse mat: Mouse mats are for scrubs. My table FTW

Keyboard: Logitech G15 V2
A nice keyboard that I'm super happy with. Don't think you can get it new any more. I find the LCD that cancel was on about really useful. It has a clock, performance monitor and stopwatch as standard (plus other things) which I use all the time. Some games also have support included. I also learnt to program for the LCD last year. The feet have snapped from all the moving it around my desk and folding them in and out so they are currently cello taped on. I only use two of the 6x3 macro keys regularly to turn on and off my second monitor.

Joystick: Cyborg V.1
I have no problems with this (except I always want more buttons). Got it fairly cheep but is solidly built.

GamePad: PS3 Dualshock 3
Getting it to work on a PC is a pain as there are no proprietary drivers. I use Better DS3 with the Motion Joy drivers to stay offline and get around the potential very bad things that could happen to the Motion Joy drivers in the future. It works well once you get it going and it pretends to be a 360 controller. I use it with a wire but you can connect via bluetooth if you have that built in or on a dongle.

Headset: Logitech G430
I find these very comfortable, much better than my old pair of on ear headphones. Has dolby virtual surround sound which is amazing going from sterio. Can hear people all around me in BF4 and TS, it feels much more immersive. Plus I can sound like a space squirrel at the push of a button.

Monitors:
Main: Dell U2414H
It looks like a monitor and does colours and stuff. Seemed massive going fro 1440x900 to 1920x1080 but it's nice to have more desktop space. Always had too much room with this and my old one as second but now want more desktop space than I have.

Second: Acer x193w
An old 1440x900 monitor that I've had for ages. It's always seemed a bit dark in pallet and the solid stand exacerbates the problem with a slightly too tilted back position giving a slightly sub optimal viewing angle.

Mouse: Razer Naga Epic

Mouse mat: SteelSeries QcK+

Keyboard: Das Keyboard 4 Ultimate (Brown keys)

Speakers: Crap TV screen-monitor that I own.

Headset: Plantronics GameCom 780 Dolby 7.1 Surround - If you're looking for a headset I highly recommend the GameCom 788. My headset has discontinued/unsupported drivers.

Mouse - Logitech G5.

I don't remember how old this thing is, but suffice it to say OLD. The button sticks quite often, which leads to people hearing me on channel commander when they shouldn't.

Keyboard - Steel series 6g

This guy is starting to break down a bit. I'm in the market for new cherry MX blue keyboards.

Audio - Focusrite Scarlett 18i8

Pretty decent for the money. Midi I/O and 8 analogue inputs.

Headphones - AKG 240

These are becoming more and more popular, and for good reason. They're very comfortable and sound damn good.

Microphone - Sure SM58

This microphone is older than me, and still works just fine.

Speakers - Some shitty things or whatever I guess

mouse: logitech G700s I just got recently. Had a G700 which I loved and at the time I actually needed the wireless mouse as I was using my PC as a media PC as well for my TV, now I don't really need the wireless but the G700 right click and 2 of the thumb buttons started dying and I really like its feel and such. Good amount of buttons and fits well in my giant hand.

mouse pad: one of the star citizen ones cause it looked cool, wasn't really that expensive for its size, and was big (can easily put a HOTAS, keyboard, and still have decent room for a mouse). wouldn't use one but my desk doesn't like mice for whatever reason and the top fabric peeled off of my old one which wasn't really big enough for gaming anyways.

keyboard: razer blackwidow, I think the stealth one, I can't really remember. Wireless KB started dying and I liked the green backlight, and it's not super loud.

speakers: I have a 2.1 set of logitechs that are from my first PC build like 10 years ago, haven't hooked them up in ages and don't use them, they're collecting dust in a closet somewhere. one of my monitors has speakers built in but they are pretty awful so I don't bother, everything through the headset.

headset: logitech G930. wanted a wireless headset when I rolled over my old one because I was tired of having wires everywhere, was on sale at the time. is super comfortable on my large dome and actually fits over my ears, which I haven't had in a headset I don't think ever because I never spent huge cash on a headset before. Fits good with glasses as well. Can and have worn it for like 12+ hours without any issue other than having to plug it in for some battery juice, plus the profiles and such on it run through the same software as my mouse so it's easy to do key binds and such for its customizable buttons.

joystick: have a really old microsoft sidewinder precision pro from like 1998 laying around which still works because the thing is a tank, but a lot of new games don't really support it due to the age. Can hack some profiles together but due to age I'll likely replace it. probably going to get either a Saitek X52 or X55 for star citizen in the future. also have a wired xbox 360 controller I use for playing my various old console emulators.

monitors: asus 22" widescreen of some model I don't remember and a really old 4:3 monitor from my first PC build before widescreen was cool as a secondary. Don't really have room for another widescreen unless I move my tower around or put it into portrait.
woke up this morning, put on my slippers, walked in the kitchen and died

Mouse: Logitech G500s
My first good mouse, I love this thing with the thumb buttons and the unlockeable scroll wheel

Mousepad: steelseries Qck

Keyboard: Corsair K90 cherry mx red which I will probably be replaced by a Gigabyte Osmium because a few of the keys aren't working due to water damage(the b,n and / key aren't working)

Headphone: Sennheiser HD598 which are connected to an Asus Xonar essence STX soundcard.
These headphones are so damn comfortable and the sound is amazing, I can wear these all day. They have a very neutral sound and they're good for pretty much anything whether that is gaming, watching a movie or listening to music.

Mic: some cheap 10 euro zalman mic

Speakers: Edifier s330d

Monitor:Overlord Tempest X270OC Which I have running at 110hz

All this this is hooked up to my pc with an i5 2500k at 4.3ghz, a gtx 970 at 1420mhz with 3.5 gb of vram and an 256gb SSD with a 2 tb hdd for media storage.

It looks like it would fall apart within a couple of days, but it hasn't
Throttle/Collective was an unused spare camera tripod.

All I need now is for the Oculus Rift to come out!

Technical Info: Sidewinder Precision 2 Pots and control board in a Logitech 3D extreme base.

Reason: The sidewinder 2 had horrible deadzones and that was the mechanical design of the stick.
The Logitech stick had some terrible pots, stuttering like mad. The base where the pots are attached to the stick is a good design, no mechanical deadzones. So I put the them together.

The collective/throttle uses the Logitech rudder pot, control.
The pedals and the cyclic uses the sidewinder pots.

About $140 spend on the project.

Oh yeah, I don't play BF4 with this setup. BF's flight model doesn't work well with joysticks, IMO.
I use this mainly for DCS: Huey.

Keyboard: Logitech G910

Mouse: Microsoft Sidewinder X8. I've taken it apart and disconnected some of the annoying buttons on it, and the mouse wheel is on its last legs. It's served my well

Monitors: 2x Samsung Generic 20 something inch monitors.

Joystick: Saitek X52 HOTAS. Yus.

I also have a pair of I think CH Pro pedals which I only really bother with in ARMA and a TrackIR5

I'm not far from doing a PVC pipe like thing with my HOTAS too. My desk it a bit too high for using it, at the moment when I'm doing anything that requires lots of attention (Combat in Elite: Dangerous) I sit on a saddle chair to make it work.
