Scrim with the French

Post by V_ »

Apparently a French clan found us, and would like to scrim in Rising Storm 2: Vietnam. I for one am super excited by the prospect of playing more RS2:V, especially when we can pool the efforts of the entire community for it. I'm happy to do some of the organizational lifting, but only if it looks like there's interest.

I'll send out a PM regarding this, to try and poke some of the non-forum users. But since you're a forum user, comment below!

While I'm definitely not super excited by the prospect of more rs2v, a scrim against a different community could provide an interesting change of pace. What do they have in mind for the scrim?

I would expect us to be able to put up a decent number of players for a well announced, one-off event. Last campaign we usually had between 12 and 15 people on and I think that for a bigger battle, we can expect a couple more to show up.

Does anyone know how good they are? I still remember being clobbered when we played against level. People will leave quickly if they're not having fun.

So I've had a conversation with Zeus69[DT] about what a scrim might look like. They've blocked off April 29th as a potential date, at 2100hr French time. He suggested 30 v 30 using their own server - we each pick a TE map (and they'll pick Hue).

When I told him we could probably only round up about 15 players, he suggested 20 v 20. He was not amenable to the idea of loaning us a few players: "We do not lend players to you to recruit we are a team not a community." He gave me the steam profiles of some Americans we could recruit, and told us we would be responsible for recruiting ourselves.

I'm not thrilled by the guy's competitive attitude, but perhaps that's merely an issue with the language barrier. Does anyone have thoughts?

Tell him to f u c k off? We're a community, not a team. I doubt we could round up 20 players, and if we could, we'd still probably get our asses handed to us.Sorry to be the Debbie Downer, but I think it's the realistic view here.

He's concerned his players will come and play with us instead on a permanent basis? Sounds like he thinks his own team is a salty place and we are nicer to play with. Perhaps he misunderstood, did you make it clear it was a loan just for the scrim, not a recruitment drive?

As Bock says, it does sound a bit like they want an ego booster by smashing a more casual group. Plus if they aren't willing to drop to ~15 because that's how many we will field, they really want a win.

BTW, 21:00 CEST (French time) is SBT+2 for anyone who was wondering.

I got those feelings about wanting a bit of a stomp during my own conversation but put it down to language barrier.

If we're going for it, I'll play, but I have no particular desire to have that match at this time.

I have a great idea. let's ask the Russians Rats clan leader master splinter to come with his crew
to fill our team and let the french eat his own attitude while de ruskie haxors will finish em.
EditL: too late I already asked him.

So it sounds like we might be a no-go on this? I also don't love their attitude, and don't feel like organizing something just to get stomped.

That's not what it sounded like to me, but fine I guess? A scrim would've a been just fine but evidently not against a team which plays to win. Quaint little strategy they have there - actually wanting to win. Maybe we should try it some time :|
