They updated when BF3 was announced, advertising their new game. They did it a few time with other EA games I beleiveGhoul wrote:The idea seemed to fall flat on its face however, I never saw an updated billboard.
It was actually a really nice technology. It may not have been very useful for advertising, but it was a really really easy way of creating custom billboards for mods. You could just change the image via URL (I think. Or local file, for a mod it doesn't really matter), instead of having to retexture the entire thing.
Also microtransactions are cool, so long as stuff can also be unlocked via normal play. Some people don't have the time to play more than a few hours during the week due to job/family commitments. As their time is limited, they place more value in it. I know that I don't want to spend 4 weeks grinding for an unlock when someone with more free time can get it in just a few days. I'd much rather put down a little bit of money to get myself to the same level. Money doesn't buy skill (or shouldn't.)
Usually MTs have been alight for purely cosmetic stuff, but I don't think that should stand in the Battlefield series. Camo is important in battlefield, I don't want to see superior camo available only to those who pay. Paid Pink-with-yellow-polkadot camo is cool though.
