I highly recommend Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin). It has a very mature theme, with a large amount of blood, gore, and death. It's also an on-going anime/manga, so you can't have the ending ruined for you in some stupid way or something.

Maybe Elfen Lied? I've not seen it myself, though I heard it brings up some interesting topics and issues. Pretty dark as well.

Is anyone else watching the Avatar: The legend of korra?
I know its not exactly anime but it has Asian influences.
I'd say im really enjoying book 2 so far. Book 1 was meh but book2 has so many more great characters + the latest 1 hour episode was really good.

Avatar: the last airbender is such an amazing show.

I haven't watched Korra at all, but the original series is one of the few "animes" that I have actually watched all of, and despite it being aimed at kids it's a good show.

My favorite anime that I have seen (not a large sample size) was the original ghost in the shell movie. Haven't watched any of the series of it but I liked the cyberpunk elements in it and found it quite interesting
woke up this morning, put on my slippers, walked in the kitchen and died

I believe a lot of people here have seen Sword Art Online and generally opinions I think are positive. Not the best, but pretty well liked. Has anyone watched Log Horizon, which was originally thought to be thought essentially like SAO?

And for whoever is a SAO fan, the second season has been anounced.

Just watched the Berserk trilogy (The Golden Age). Its the anime Spartacus, tons of blood, gore and Hentai sex.
Its just shame the story doesn't come to an end.

Haven't seen ep3 yet but after ep2 i was like wtf...

Also just finished Claymore, ejoyed the series but felt like the ending was a bit over the top.
