I just baught a new gfx adapter and I am not yet 100% confident with its performance.
My setup:
AMD XP 2400+ CPU
ASUS AX800Pro (ATI X800 chipset, AGP)
1 GB DDR (running on double speed)
I want to go at least on 1024x768. I can set my BF2 settings to Low only with some sliders (like terrain) to medium. But the general medium setting is unplayable.
I assume there is somewhere a bottleneck in my system. What settings do you run with your X800?

and that surprises me ...
one thing that just came to my mind which looks like a memory issue:
when i load onto a map, each time there is something new (like a rocket) it lags shortly.
well i got two memory modules runnin in dual channel mode. Therefor i dont really wanna break up my dual channel configuration by addin a 512 MB module. May try to get a similar module. I am unsure if dual channel makes a difference anyway.

If you look at something new and it lags shortly, it must be the Video-RAM.
(loading in new textures and so on)
I have the same issues at the beginning of a new map.
After a few secs, its gone!
I dont think this has something to do with your RAM. And Dual-Channel is definatly better with than without it.
IF you want to upgrate, upgrate with another pair of Modules (which is expensive).
In BF2 it only helps with the loading times (as far as i am informed)...
The most of the calculating power needed is used by CPU AND GPU!
