...From the EA Master Server. I get logged off every 5 minutes or so no matter what I'm doing, singleplayer, editing options, multiplayer...whatever. I know the server wasn't down because ATM I was listening to Gottek, Redman, madcow, etc. playing. I've looked around other popular BF forums and all their answers were "The master server is down", or something along those lines. Well its not down now...so WTF is the problem?

EDIT: An interesting finding on Gamespot Forums:

I monitored the network and this is what's happening

One you run BF2142.exe and clicked on "LOGIN" it connect to EA server 159.153.235.92:18510

This is the server IP information:-

OrgName: Electronic Arts, Inc.
OrgID: ELECTR-60

# ARIN WHOIS database, last updated 2006-10-16 19:10
# Enter ? for additional hints on searching ARIN's WHOIS database.

Then when you click on "UPDATE LIST" it connect to 207.38.11.34:29900 & 207.38.11.11:28910 both are GameSpy servers.

Now if you select any of the listed server on your screen and clicked on "JOIN SERVER" for example, in my case I selected "www i-t-s.org DF2141" server it will show you that its connecting to "www i-t-s.org BF2141 IP 194.162.61.43: 16567" but in reality its still connecting to "EA Server 159.153.235.92:18510" and "GameSpy Server 207.38.11.34:29900" and it will stay connected like that even if your playing the game for the 8 mints before if show you " your connection to the EA master has been lost ", when this happens the connection to the EA & GameSpy servers lost, and I don’t see them.

So actuality you don’t connect directly to "www i-t-s.org DF2141 IP 194.162.61.43: 16567" server. Even if you select "CONNECT TO IP" and type in the server IP you still go through EA and GameSpy and you stay connected to them.

So all your connection go through EA > GameSpy > "Any BF Fan Servers".
I think they did it so they can control the access so any time they can shot down this connection and no one can connect to any Demo server.

I did this test will all my firewall is down, so all the connection was open.

But this is over loading their server; and losing our connection, I was reading on the interne that there are 1,5M BF 2141 Demo users.

Hope they fix it ASAP , what we can do is sent an email to ea-maint@ea.com they are in charge of the serve.

Reg

Basel

Sometimes that's the only way to have an intellectual conversation around here :P.

I solved my disconnect this evening. I installed amd's latest optimizer. Found on their site. Seems there is a problem with dual-core amd's and 2142.

Don't use AMD so that don't help :) . I'm seeing a lot of solutions, and will try them out sometime.

I tried turning off my firewall...no help.

That quoted explanation about all game packets being routed through gamespy servers sounds like some grade A bullshit. Granted, 2142 is laggy, but if they really did route all game traffic through their servers it would be totally unplayable.

My guess about what is actually happening is that the client maintains a connection to the game spy servers for the buddy list and perhaps for anti-cheat measure and/or profile updating. Of course as I said, that's a guess, but it's far more realistic than what that other guy came up with.

If anyone wants to sniff the 2142 traffic and host the file, we could check it out and maybe figure out what is really going on.

...and the adware/market reasearch data.

Ugh...Can't find any miracle solution that fixes the problem for everyone out there...so I guess I have to wait for a patch...how depressing :(

Can't even play singleplayer.

Do you have some internet security software installed? And or a router between you and the internet? Bf2142 creates hell of a lot connections and i had the impression my router had some issues with it and tweaked some settings there and working fine now.

I have had a lot of connection problems. Just ask Goggles, he'll tell you. My connection usually goes down about every 10 mintues on most servers and I can't run TS at the same time.

It's true! I see tiberian connect all the time, and suddenly *poof* where is the rebel? Makes me wonder if I'm going kookoo!

You're not going insane, but I'm about to smash either my wireless receiver or the router with a crowbar. They both are bad, but right now I'm trying to deliberate between which to destroy.

I managed to play a full round yesterday before being D/Ced. I did mess with the router but to no avail. I will try more stuff...hopefully EA addresses the issue soon.

OK I got it working now. A lot of tweaking with the router let me play about 45 minutes before I quit, not disconnect. I think I'm good now...I'll kick your ass soon :D
