Sure you want AMD over intel, right now the Core Duo 2 chipset is smacking up the AMD 64's like they were nancy boys...

ok ill consider both... but every intel i have ever owned has crashed and burned on me... but i have had this amd for almost 4 years now and its still kicking.... AMD Athlon 3000+

Scratch the ATI thing also... any builds you all come up with would be greatly appreciated :)

hehe I've actually always had Intels, because mostly I game on a machine I rig for my business...

I'd say have a peek at online benchmark sites... I think some rigs are avaliable with Dual AMD 64 processors and they might come to par with the Core Duo 2's (if you can keep the rig cool)

Ok, here goes, w/ NewEgg part #'s

NZXT Zero Black/Silver Aluminum ATX Full Tower Computer Case -
Item #: N82E16811146029
$149.99

This case is BIG and has more than enough fans.

ASUS CROSSHAIR Socket AM2 NVIDIA nForce 590 SLI MCP ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail
Item #: N82E16813131593
$229.99

Overpriced Mobo, but the boards with ddr2 memory are so picky, might as well go with proven reliability.

eVGA 768-P2-N835-AR GeForce 8800GTX 768MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 SUPERCLOCKED HDCP Video Card - Retail
Item #: N82E16814130079
$619.99

Nothing else compares... I know you want it, but you will learn to just stay away from ATI friend.

PC Power & Cooling Silencer 610 EPS12V EPS12V 610W Continuous @ 40°C Power Supply - Retail
Item #: N82E16817703005
$169.99

This company makes the best PSU's, period. You could get more wattage, but it will cost you a lot more.

AMD Athlon 64 FX-62 Windsor 2.8GHz Socket AM2 Dual Core
Item #: N82E16819103861
$589.00

Why you want to go with AMD for this, I don't know, but if you must, this is the chip. C2D is king right now... I still don't trust the whole quad thing yet. I have no idea how overclockable this chip is either, but it's an FX.

OCZ Platinum Revision 2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model
Item #: N82E16820227139
$245.99

Only because I know this memory is compatible with the mobo. You could probably do better though.

NEC Black 1.44MB 3.5" Internal Floppy Drive - OEM
Item #: N82E16821152005
$6.25

Never know when you might need a floppy.

LITE-ON 20X DVD±R Burner with 12X DVD-RAM write and LightScribe Technology Black IDE Model LH-20A1H-186 - Retail
Item #: N82E16827106045
$37.99

Could do a lot better here, but why bother?

Creative 70SB046A00000 7.1 Channels PCI Interface Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatal1ty Professional Series - Retail
Item #: N82E16829102005
$145.99

Overpriced, and paying for the Fatal1ty name, but still nice.

Subtotal: $2,195.18

could add another GPU or another 2 Gigs of ram to really max it out, but it's already ridiculous as is.

I did not add any HDD's, OS, or after-market cooling into this at all. That stuff is all personal taste/opinion. I personally have stayed away from water-cooling just for fear of leaking, but a lot of guys use it with no problems, and clock their systems into the stratosphere. I have this crazy idea of converting a mini-fridge into a computer case....

There are places one could improve on this...but DAAAAAAMN she's gonna be fast.

wow thanks rickey... love the ideas... go ahead and switch the amd to intel...

Also want to add i prefer two gpu's and 4gb ram. so an sli system is preferable :)

Well my choice atm would be :

Mobo ASUS P5N32-E SLI LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI ATX
Supports 16x SLI + great 3d performance not to mention OC ability $299.99
EDIT: There are some reports that BIOS still has some bugs so good alternative would be Asus striker extreme @ $419

CPU Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6700 Kentsfield 2.66GHz
Quad core $990.00

Memory...actually plenty to choose from as long as it has Micron D9 chips inside [D9GKX better at higher frequencys , D9GMH for lower latencys]
Tho in novadays ram frequencys are far more important than timings.

Maybe CORSAIR Dominator 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1111 (PC2 8888) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TWIN2X2048-8888C4DF - Retail
Timing: 4-4-4-12
Freq: 1111Mhz $610.00

GPU OCZ OCZ8800GTX GeForce 8800GTX 768MB 384-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 $629.99
Better ram inside than other manufacturers for better OC or maybe wait for ATI R600 ?

PSU ENERMAX GALAXY EGA1000EWL-DXX ATX / BTX 1000W Gamers Edition Power Supply $349.00
Plenty of power

Sound card Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatal1ty
64 Mb of ram $145.99

DVD-RW PLEXTOR 16X DVD±R DVD Burner With Replaceable White Front Panel Black SATA Model PX-755SA - Retail
Sata $105.99
HD Western Digital Raptor X WD1500AHFD 150GB 10,000 RPM Serial ATA150 Hard Drive - OEM $229.99
System disk

Seagate Barracuda ES ST3500630NS 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM $249
Archive disk

And ofc computer case of your choice :P

Total : 3609,95 $ without the computer case.
All prices taken from Newegg.

P.s.: This rig has enormous overclocking ability

Drop the floppy (it'll collect dust which in turn eats floppies) and go with a 1-2GB USB memory stick. How many files fit on 1.4MB anymore?

Intel CPU if you are going to overclock at the slightest. High end Asus boards are very reliable with DDR2. Go with a Nvidia chipset to match the Nvidia card. AMD only if you are going to build a budget rig.

Watercooling is reliable as long as you follow the instructions and take your time. You want proper seating so you dont cook a part. Liquid pressure is minimal and the parts/hoses usually are rated for 20+ years. DangerDen has some good kits.

SLI 8800GTX will consume a bit of power which will make a very nice space heater for your room. But you got the budget and the want now. ATI has yet to put out a piece of hardware to match the 8800. Also, ATI software has a reputation of being a pain. Nvidia releases alot faster for the latest games.

Power supply is important. You may want a little more wattage for SLI. Either way, get a reliable one if you want all your components to run reliable. Your electric bill will increase if you play much.

Display, you may want CRT or LCD. You may want dual screen. Just remember LCDs have a native mode and arent as friendly with switching resolutions.

Dont put a wish list together unless you are going to pull the trigger within 2 weeks. Things can change rapidly.

7.1 speakers take laying wires. Or go with a true 5.1 headphone.

yeah i know prices fluctuate rapidly.. Ill search around again when im ready to pay the bill.

Im mainly convinced now to go intel/nvidia and most likely the 8800gtx.

Display im not sure... most likely a 21" lcd or something along those lines

Edit: Im a newb when it comes to overclocking... never done, nor have i ever researched it. i would like to do it, but know nothing about it.

Well new Intel cpus dont heat that much.
I got E6600 @ 3.4Mhz - 45C full load and I'm using cheap Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro , tho Box cooler can do just fine.

DangerDen water blocks are too expensive and very poorly made.
Here is the proof:

@ Gravis : OC is not that hard so to say...You just need to dig in right forums and you are on :P

Lots of wisdom there.
