Help with BF2 possibly corrupted [RESOLVED]

Yesterday I couldn't joint in the EUBO because my pc decided it wouldn't run POE - I haven't tried it before so thought it just couldn't handle it.

I then tried to reinstall BF2 from scratch and now I can't get the 1.41 patch to go on at all. I've just tried installing it on my new laptop today and it still won't install. I downloaded the patch fresh from here today.

Does anyone have any ideas as to why this would happen?

Did you turn off your Anti-virus software before installing?

also be sure and restart after each uninstall or installation step...

I did reboot inbetween each part. However I forgot to turn off antivirus so maybe that's the problem. I'll try uninstalling again and give it a go without antivirus on. Why exactly does antivirus cause a problem?

antiviruses usually have the rights to scan each and every file during a read/write operation, and can deny a read/write if it thinks anythings going on....

its jsut best to disable, tho its not always the cause...

Also one thing to note is that the EA BF patches seem to have a really hard time installing on multiple partitions. If your BF2 installation is on a different partition (drive) than your OS, than it could be causing a problem as well.

What kind of error message are you getting? (if any?)

You should also make sure when uninstalling it did indeed uninstall all the registry entries also, I remember I had to go through the registry manually and make sure I got all the Bf-entries deleted. MAKE SURE YOU RUN A SAVECOPY OF YOUR REGISTRY before fooling around with it though

Thanks for your replies, it has now installed. I don't know if its because I turned off the antivirus or because I downloaded the patch from a different source. It is installed on the same partition as the OS, I tend to stick programs on the same partition. Now I just have to try and remember my password.

I've never had any problems with BF2 being on a different partition before. It does run slow though. Anyone know why this is a problem?

Styphon, do you mean why it's running slow on a different partition, or why it's got troubles patching to a different partition? The patch one seems pretty easy.. the patch simply assumes your game's installed on the root drive and when it looks there and doesn't see anything, it thinks you're crazy for trying to install the patch.

As for running slower when on a second partition, can't say I'm sure why that would be.. maybe it's got something to do with jumping back and forth from accessing game files on your second partition and accessing the virtual memory on your primary? I dunno, just guesses

he may also mean the partition is a separate drive. BF2 is very drive speed dependent.

I have 2 hard drives in my computer. I run BF2 on my second drive, which is not the OS drive. It also doesn't run off my raptor but I don't get any lag at any point while playing, including while playing mods. I noticed no speed difference at all since I switched it to my other drive (7200RPM SATA II drive).
