Global Conflict

Hey Guys,

soo today I joined the Teamspeak, and of course, my Mic is broken..
I found out I have a back up Mic. which is my cable that goes to my main headset(which I didn't use as a Mic on my Desktop).


But when I put it in, Realtek only gives me one option.
Or use it as a Microphone, or as a Headset (and since I don't have speakers I need the headset).

The way I know that it should work is: Because on my laptop/mobile phone I can use it as a Mic and Headset at the same time....

Do you guys know a fix to this? If not, I'll have to buy a new one tomorrow or something

The connectors are different at the ends of the cable... shouldn't they be the same? Is that photo photoshopped?

You'll notice that one of the connectors has three insulating strips across it while the other only has two. The one with two is the normal layout for headphones- two output signals for stereo and one for the return. The one with three uses the extra cable as a mic input. Your PC may probably doesn't the correct hardware to detect that third contact.

It's because the mic is on the cable itself, the side that plugs into the headphones only needs to standard connector, but the side that plugs into your device needs the extra one for the mic.

The 2 way end plugs into his headphones. The mic on the cable provides the 3rd output. The 3 way end plugs into the PC. You must be plugging into a 2 way input on your PC. Try the other ports on your soundcard. If none of them work, you either need to get a 3 way to 2 way + mono splitter, or just get a separate mic.

either this or using separate headphones is your best bet. I've never seen anything like that cable before, but strictly from a wiring standpoint if it doesn't work in any port of your motherboard/sound card, it's not going to work as you describe.

Ah I'm an idiot lol, I thought it was a volume adjuster.

What dekoy said is best if you can find the correct splitter... I've never seen one either tbh.

Otherwise try using a separate set of headphones, and use the mic on that cable. If you're lucky you'll be able to leave the original headphones unplugged. There's still a chance though that it won't detect the mic depending on how the electrical contacts are set up in your motherboard.

First I'm going to try it with a second cable (and one without the headphone plugged in).

Otherwise I'll see today if I can find a splitter, if not I'll buy an extra Microphone.

Or...get a USB headset, solves all your problems.
Sennheiser and Plantronics has some that aren't so expensive.

That's indeed a possibility, but I think I'm going Mic only, since I don't like to have 2 things on my head
