I was thinking about creating a website for personal use. Any recommendations for companies to use?

Also what is good software to create a website. MS Frontpage?

Thanks.

Frontpage is the horror. Good for "My personal homepage: Look at my cute puppy!!!" but not much more.

I'd suggest having a look at the Adobe/Macromedia tools.

www.1and1.com should have something that suits you. They are market leader in germany and around for quite sometime. Solid technology and stuff. They are hosting millions of domains.

Macromedia/Adobe Dreamweaver is expensive but considered best of breed. nvu which is free gets good critics though too. Last but not least a little background helps creating good websites with any tool. Check www.selfhtml.org

http://www.selfhtml.org/#en in english for easier link ;)

Also recommend http://www.w3schools.com if you have little/no experience in web developement.

If you're looking for free webhosting for simplicity's sake, try checking out http://www.awardspace.com. I like practicing my PHP/MySQL and AJAX stuff on there :D

For practice/use of ASP or other .NET techs on a free host, try http://www.brinkster.com.

http://www.nvu.com

It is an open source program which aims to be a rival to Frontpage and Dreamwaver.

I only use notepad also, but havent tried to do any real eye candy either.

lighthost.com has been extremely reliable for low traffic sites for the last 5 years. I havent referred any high traffic sites so cant tell you the reliability under high load. Still, I have an ex-girlfriend who is still using them with a low load website and they have performed.

I have Macromedia Dreamweaver MX, Xrcist.

If you find yourself in need of such tooling, let me know. We can set you up on the very cheap, as I don't use it like I planned on. It edits almost every language and application used on web pages currently. I mean everything, mate.

Winter :D

These people seem very cheap for what you get in terms of hosting. Do you know how reliable they are ph1l0r?
