Battlefield Holiday Party - Retro Edition

Post by Shrapnel »

As you probably know the BF3 campaign is on hold for the next two weeks to allow people to spend time with their families and have a good time on New Years. We still want to do something during our normal battle times though and we've decided to hold a Battlefield Retro Holiday Party!

So break out those old discs and get them dusted off because this Saturday we're going back to karkand for real in BF2!

Then, on the following weekend, we're going even further back. All the way back to Bocage and the Battle of the Bulge in BF1942!

So get those old games installed and patched up, clean the sand out of your boots and oil up that old bolt action rifle as we re-visit some great GC history!

What: The GC Battlefield Retro Holiday Party!
Where: We'll start on the GC Euro Server.
When: BF2: 24DEC11 @ Normal Battle Time BF42: 31DEC11 @ Normal Battle Time

I won't bother with BF2 but I have 42 on my system so hopefully I can make it. Haven't killed Brummie in 42 yet so can't wait.

I'm getting old memories of the hoops it took to get BF1942 and BF2 to work on Win XP.

The BF2 part i got covered ..anything after that, 25th to next year - sorries

As much as i would have enjoyed the good old Mauser and Enfield rifles, kicking up the dunes of El Alamein in a Spitfire ... Berlin is calling ...

but when i get back, i will surely try to get BF1942 running on Win 7 X64 ... great idea :D

nevertheless, Happy Holidays :)

How it all started ...

I remember when I started playing 42 and I wanted to play in a submarine. I tried really hard to find it in singleplayer to practice, even used the destroyer's sonar to locate it but couldn't find it. I was wondering how was that possible if it was clearly shown on many screenshots.

Submarines didn't have AI code, hence they were not available by default.

Changing and/or adding soawn settings we used to make them spawn.

At some point, we had a No-Entry Sub sticking out the oasis lake at El Alamein ... good old times :)

Just finished installing and patching. Watching the intro video sure brought back some fond memories. :)

If you're going to play with us this Saturday please be sure to patch to 1.61 which is available on EA's BF1942 downloads page.

One other note.

Apparently pbsetup.exe doesn't support updates for BF1942 anymore. You can update your PB version by using these instructions. At least it worked for me.
