BF4 first impressions

Re: BF4 first impressions
That performance fix can't come soon enough, I'm losing all my 1x1 head-on firefights right now. That's why I've been playing more with vehicles, although that aim misalignment in the tank is also quite annoying. On the other hand that boat is just amazing. It's like the most fun vehicle to play with, the main gun has a lot of ammo and can take down anything, I just wish it would make turns better, it seems a little bit glitched. And snipers, snipers everywhere.
Re: BF4 first impressions
The more I play this, the more I want to pull my hair out.
- I'm still having frame-rate issues, I understand this is a beta, but could they at least did some performance optimizations before release? I mean really.
- RPG is OP. Everyone has said it, no need to put anymore detail. Just reinforcing the fact.
- M320 is also OP. Not against infantry, I think it's fine against infantry. What is OP about it is it's anti-tank role.
The M320's 40mm grenades do not have any sort of armor-piercing capabilities, yet in game, 3 of those from a little fecking Assault dude can do about 45% damage to a tank. No joke. How many time were you finished off in a tank by an M320? For me, I lost count after 5.
- XM25 is more effective than a sniper rifle. Point at cover -> Wait for "Lock" -> Spam -> Get points. And it can literally kill from across the map. I liked it better when Support had C4. (And I hate Support with C4...)
- MX4. Do not engage a target who currently has an MX4 equipped. You will die.
- Armor is still weak. At any given moment on the Battlelog forums, Some one will say how they love the fact that armor is weak, because tanks were OP in BF3. And they're serious. Which makes me wonder why anyone who hates vehicles in a Battlefield game, play Battlefield? It makes no sense to me.
Yet after all the many ways to die in this game, I still maintain a Positive Kill/Death ratio. And running the game at 25 FPS! Am I getting good or this is an easy game to play?
Hopefully these will change in the final release.

Re: BF4 first impressions
I've been playing quite a lot of Domination lately, to test infantry gameplay and such.
Apart from ofc, bad optimization and framerate drops, I've been enjoying it quite a lot, except for these 3 facts:
-Everybody and their mother (I think I said this already, but it gets worse in DOM) has some crap that explodes and takes you down to 30% (maybe 50 with flak) and takes 1 sec to reload, implying that it didn't kill you before.
-BAD RESPAWNS, like for real, it's like Wake Island TDM with 64, where the map is so small that it's better to aim behind you, cause the respawn is already switching. (I've seen full squads respawning behind me, 1 sec after I respawned)
-DOM map looks a lot like a COD map. I know it has been obviously designed that way to attract COD players (they have been trying this strat since CQ DLC) but I think it's too much.

Re: BF4 first impressions
I had quite a bit of fun playing around with the recon kit with a bolt action sniper rifle today, because everyone needs to work on their teamplay from time to time, right?
C4ing tanks is harder, because they're faster. I like the PLD. It has the added bonus of being a range-finder, which, when paired with the new zeroing mechanic, is just plain cool. My only complaint with the zeroing mechanic is how it seems we're playing on a planet with 4x Earth's gravity. With a rifle zeroed for 200m, I shouldn't have to aim half a foot low at 50 m to hit my target. It should be about 2 inches tops. It must be really hard for someone at DICE to look up a ballistics table for 7.62 NATO...
The miniguns are still weak titties, which makes no sense. I'm fairly confident that the time to kill of those things against infantry is worse than every other weapon in the game.
The attack boat is fuckking awesome. I can see why Starfisher flips his crap every time a boat might be available to drive. I want to lead GC's first BF4 Special Boat Warfare Squadron.

Re: BF4 first impressions
I was suspecting this at the beggining but now i can "almost" confirm. Infantry fights are now "server side". Even if the server had performance issues, on BF3 i would just receive a delay killfeed, now i might get 15 pointblank shots at someone and no hitmarks at all.
At first i thought i was a bit rusty, gameplay is different, blablabla...but its more frequent to be getting some "bs" kills i wasnt suspecting to get n crap no hitmarks at some people.
Or maybe it´s just because this is "BETA".

Re: BF4 first impressions
transport chopper is more agile and easy to steer. the 3D camera is also better then in BF4.
i think it can easily become a powerful battlebus if used correctly.
The RPG that hits me at the end shows how large the choppers hit box. Its like twice as large as the chopper itself, or is it the rotor?
i still wish you could turn the camera as you wish like in BF2.

Re: BF4 first impressions
But it makes sense. They have made it so flares take the lock off the heli and so it requires the ability to relock on an alternate target. You see this when the lock in the video switches to a flare. This makes sense in a real world application and that is what flares do, create hot decoys for heat seekers. So being able to re target the chopper is a kind of continuation of this. Although it does seem a bit lazy to make it so you can re target the chopper after the lock switches to a flare. Hopefully they fix it for release.Divine-Sneaker wrote:Whoever even thought of it, even as a temporary solution, needs to be fired.Necromancer wrote:what is this sh*t?

Re: BF4 first impressions
Can we not switch to BF4 and continue playing BF3 because this game looks to be something like CoD:MW3 which is an awful game.

And if any if the people working on BF4 have to use any real world parallel as justification for game balance decisions, they too need to be fired. Game balancing should always and in every single circumstance trumph everything else to give the best gameplay experience for the players. Nothing else is more important.A Docile Sloth wrote:But it makes sense. They have made it so flares take the lock off the heli and so it requires the ability to relock on an alternate target. Re: BF4 first impressions
It's good to see us being critical about these things in terms of how they are going effect GC and the upcoming campaign. One thing i want emphasize is that we shouldn't expect this game to be balanced until a few weeks to a month after release. At least. Making any multiplayer online game balanced on release is just not realistic.
I don't think people realize that when the devs come up with a really cool idea, it is really hard after the fact to view it a with a fresh set of yes. What i mean by that is that they develop a mechanic (or gun... or w.e) and its hard for them to look at the same mechanic and seeing it be used in a completely different way than they would have imagined.
Now you could say that they should hire people and have a so called "red team" ( a red team is what is referred to a group of people who have not been involved with a project and are in the industry and can give a fresh opinion) to tell them these things. The truth is that we are the best people suited to do this. Sure we're doing this for free, but just look at how we are( albeit slowly) getting aspects we ask for as a community in the game. We spend 20+ hours on a beta 4 days after it is released... so they could spend a bunch of money hiring people to break their game, but no one, i mean NO ONE is going to do as good a job as us.
This is SOFTWARE, it's thousands of lines of code written for our pleasure. OUR pleasure. I think it's very important for us to be critical of a product that we want to buy, but it's even more important how we apply that criticism.
Let''s as a GC community, take this opportunity to maybe speak our mind to a Dev team that may be willing to listen what their customers have to say. Sure nothing will change for release but maybe after they get some feedback they will release a big patch...
I know some of you will think i'm being a fan boy and that they won't listen. But nothing ventured nothing gained my friends.
