Dogfighting Workshop

Post by expandas »

I will be running a practice session on this upcoming Tuesday at SBT+8 (and possibly SBT+2 if there is interest) for players that want to learn more about flying jets in GC. We''ll teach you some of the tricks to mastering turns, dogfighting against a competent enemy pilot, and get you acclimated to flying in a GC-style setting. I stress that you do not need to be a l33t pilot in order to attend. This workshop is about reaching out to all players, both experienced and inexperienced, who might have been hesitant in the past to fly. I simply ask that all those interested in attending reply in this thread and check out this primer from C5.

I am interested, but SBT+8 is too late for me. Any later than SBT+5 is difficult.
I watched quite a few jet vids in youtube and I can beat an average pilot most of the time. But I am no match against a good one.
Eg I fail to do proper diagonal turns for these scissor things (how to use yawing there correctly and such). Speed control is a separated issue. I barely used yaw control most of the time in the jet in he past

Thing is, I cant even delay the dog fight long enough to help the team, a few seconds (2-3 turns) and I am dead.
I mean, beating Loa, CallID or you expandas will need tons of practice, but there is no point trying to fly the jet if you cant gain some time for your team by staying alive for some decent amount of time.
Flying in GC is probably even harder than in pubs...

Thing is if you really want to fly a jet, you have to be the one to put in effort. I don't mind having an inexperienced wingman as much if I he really wants to fly. If you think you'll never even buy enough time for your team to be useful then you've just given up. Have some ambition, we shouldn't be the ones encouraging you to do something you want to do.

I think I had about 10 jet service stars when I first joined GC, now I have almost 200. Of course service stars don't show how good the pilot is, but it does show that I put in the time and effort into getting better even though we had people like Sturdywings flying on the other side back then. I don't mind helping you, but you have to want to fly more than you are afraid of failing.

You can usually find me on teamspeak somewhere, if I am not doing anything at the time I'll be more than happy to fly against you for a bit. I can even handicap myself by flying a F-35 if you'd like. You have to realise that none of the pilots on GC are some unbeatable dogfighting gods, they just know what they are doing and you can too if you try.
