BF3 inconsistency

Post by Necromancer »

phpBB [video]

my first shot hits dead front, my second shot is under the tank, and yet it takes no damage at all.
i guess it is absorbed by the reactive, but HOW??????
or rather -
WHY?????

this game inconsistency is killing me!

Yeah, the tanks are very buggy in BF3.When you see he is trying to ram you, start retreating and shooting at the same time.

The first shot hit the enemy tank's right side reactive armor. You can see the puff of smoke when the round makes contact. The second shot hit the enemy tank from while it was sprinting forward, which causes the round to deal rear damage, taking out the rear reactive armor. This is a known bug that hasn't been patched, but you can definitely reproduce it in-game, and some tankers will even use it to their advantage to absorb that first shot.

the first shot maybe absorbed by the right reactive, but it definitely hits the front of the tank.
at the second shot the tank already rammed me and lost its speed, the rear hit bug should not of occurred.

Me guess: shooting under the tank is for sure not bug-free, who know where exactly the hitboxes for front/side/rear are.

BF3's tank hitboxes are simplified so much that it doesn't make much of a difference hitting underneath, think it does the same damage as a side or front shot on a weird angle. DiCE probably didn't expect many ways for a tank to see the underside of another tank, so the hitbox is probably just a wrap around from the front/side/rear, meaning the underside shot could have gotten absorbed by any one of the reactives I still had up.

As the driver of the T90 in the video, I was surprised as all hell to not have died during that, especially when I went over Necro on the ram. It has to have been the hitbox bug, which I had no idea was going to happen btw, and I say that with full honesty, didn't even know about it until this thread and I read up on it after the video. Necro definitely got 3 shots in on me before I did on him. Luck of the draw, I'm sure I'll die next time.

Always wondered what the other guy saw when I went in for the ram though, thanks for taking the vid.

edit: replayed the video a bunch of times, the shot when I'm on top of the tank hit towards the back due to the angle and such. I'm guessing it did take out my rear reactive.

the thing that made me go and check it is that i knew my shots had to do damage, and yet you wasn't disabled.

As i named this topic, there is no way i could tell my front hit and my underbelly hit did not do any damage as other times they do. That inconsistency is what sux. even if there are bugs, like the sprint-rear-hit, those can be predicted, taken into account and calculated. but the shit that happened in this vid simply could not.

a tip: as RU, never ram a US tank. you almost always end up on top, unable to aim down while your'e all over the screen of your opponent.

backing up after you rammed me was also a mistake. i could maneuver my tank and get at least one more shot before youd be able to free yourself, which should of given me even a bigger advantage.
i only backed off because i was afraid from the infantry coming from Echo, but actually the crucial mistake that sealed my fate was done even before. even if i killed you i'd probably ended up disabled, and the infantry that spawned on Echo and already closed in would kill me anyway (probably with the TOW).
as i value staying alive more then trading with enemy tank, i should have just backed off Echo.

Keep in mind that your barrel was clipping inside the tank, which very well could have caused the round to just go through, since it never hit the a surface of the tank.

that was probably the best fight we had all day over there though. most of the time we just traded shots behind cover from D to E.

and normally I agree with you on the ramming, but depending on the opposing tanker I can sometimes get away with playing it as I did (worked that time). In the future though if we go up against each other it probably wouldn't play out that well for me.

My orders were to hold Delta, and even when there was a tank or a squad pushing Echo, i was told not to move in (i even asked to push Echo, but didn't get green light. full vid will be up soon)
so basically, trading shots was my objective. I only needed to keep you at bay, stopping you from attacking Echo to Delta. And i think i did it quite well

there were some other issues behind us kinda just sitting there as well without pushing, but essentially I was told to defend E and trading shots is what ended up happening

Man, I died atleast twice in exchanges on Bandar where my shots registered as hits but did no damage. One of them had to have been lag induced, as I was in a turning fight with Daskro and put three shots into the same side without disabling him, meanwhile that was enough for him to take me out...and then his TD warped weirdly a second or two later.

I think it's safe to say that weird crap happens with hit detection, especially with vehicles.

this for sure, especially on bandar. I hit TDs with my TD cannon -> TOW directly after and it had 0 damage done (cannon took out reactive).
