It looks like a lot of people are looking back at the BF3 days with rose tinted nostalgia glasses. At 21CW, during the BF3 campaigns, they tried to do something similar - go back to BF2 in the middle of the BF3 era. What it caused was the 250 playerbase to drop down to 100 and the majority of the people who liked BF3 went on to create another 32v32 tournament for BF3 - LevelBF.

So I'd imagine if GC switched to BF3, the players who still enjoy BF4 will most likely jump ship to another 32v32 BF4 tournament.

Just my 2 cents.

I agree Kilo, it does appear, that some people are looking at BF3 through their nostalgia goggles. Which in a way, makes it harder for people to talk against the idea of switching. You see, you have these two or three people who are adamant that BF3 is better in so many different ways, this makes the rest of think that it can't be as bad as we remember because these people still love the game! That may not change our overall opinion but it makes us more likely to think that we can't be sure without testing it for 'just one campaign'. That may not seem like a bad thing, but what is this a campaign that lasts for serveral months? That's just going to end up with people, who didn't completely agree with the idea of testing BF3 leave us, because who wants to play a game that they were almost forced to play, if it's only for a 'test'?

Same goes for you. You simply ignore the people who stopped playing, or keep playing but don't enjoy it, as if they don't exist.

As I said before Necro, if they leave this amazing community then it's a shame on them. Of course it's a shame for people to leave of course, and they would be missed but at the end of the day, we shouldn't change for the vocal minority. I mean, if a huge portion of the community want change but aren't speaking that's different, but the evidence suggests that, that is not the case.

You brought up the Scottish referendum before, that logic, however similar logic can be applied. When the idea of scottish independence came around it seemed like there was going to be an overwhelming yes vote, but as time went on it was apparent that the Scottish general public wasn't overly keen on the change but there was still a chunk who didn't shout about it that did want independence. That mix left us in the result we got today, but up until 'zero hour' it was almost impossible to tell which way the vote was going to go. For GC, how close the vote (if we had one) is would probably differ and not be so close, but it's more the process leading up to the vote or decision, which is where we are now that is more applicable.

There's a question at the end of the next campaigns interest survey regarding games. Once we're done getting results in we'll be looking at taking action dependant on what the community as a whole seems to be thinking.

Just an FYI off of the survey:

So far we've got 68 responses, of the question regarding if we should swap game we've had the following:

- 23 non responses (Which could be intepreted as "no don't swap")

- 30 responses for BF4. About 40% of those are actively not-BF3.

- 2 responses who don't mind BF4 or BF3

- 5 responses for BF3 (one person suggested it 7 times, I've counted it as one)

You'll notice that doesn't come to 68, some other games were noted so far (some people suggested multiple)

- Planetside 2 (seriously guys?) 2 responses

- BF1942 2 responses

- RO2 1 response

- Insurgency 1 response

- BFBC2 2 responses

- Plants Versus Zombies Garden Warfare 1 response (. . . . .)

- ARMA Series 3 responses

- BF2 2 responses

- BF2142 1 response

I may be a 1 or 2 off on everything except for the no response, that is the only one I could put in via formulae. The forms a wee bit crappy to navigate cause of googledocs limitations, but now you know.

I will add that the survey specifically said not to pick games that wouldn't fit GC and listed Planetside 2 as an example.

thing about this is that a lot of people who arent interested in playing the next bf4 campaign didnt fill out the form. While these are the people that we are losing because they want a different game.

I do think that the majority wants to stick with bf4 though, so its not really an option switching back im afraid.

and on the nostalgia note:
I think to an extent it's true, people tend to remember the good bits rather than the bad bits.
However there are certain factual things that people just like better, that have nothing to do with the nostalgia goggles, stuff like the core mechanics of air gameplay,.

I will probably be playing the next campaign as much as I played the last one, sporadically showing up on air maps to fly some stuff for old-time's sake.

Well, honestly, if they aren't paying attention to the forums to vote on what they want to happen, it's their loss.

I think some people look at bf4 with a rose tint goggles too. Either because they spent a lot of money on it or just cause its a newer installment.
This game has so many bad design principles its just not fun to play. And my battlelog list proves it. I don't see anyone playing this game in his spare time anymore.

The massive success, that was the bf3 funday, should be prove enough that the call for bf3 is pretty much unheared by the majority of the community.

Can we pls move on already and get the next campaing set up pls ?

Oh and pls, dont get me wrong Necro. I do respect you and your fellow bf3 enthusiasts, but if you dont feel like playing bf4, then dont play it, but why start a discussion on this, get results ( poll + funday ) and then still hold on to it.
