Re: GC Netiquette Rules Amended
Someone told me that this issue was brought up because Ghoul clicked one of knorrens links while a kid was watching. Is that correct?
Re: GC Netiquette Rules Amended
The straw that breaks the camel's back. It doesn't matter if the straw is given a pass, its the weight of the issue.
How does a community retain itself? The identity of GC is about including as many people gaming around the world as best as possible. You have a better plan, please lay it out.

Re: GC Netiquette Rules Amended
I've already suggested requiring labels instead of banning. Then people can decide for themselves what is appropriate. I only asked about the ghoul thing because I think my solution addresses that issue.
Re: GC Netiquette Rules Amended
At what day can people decide for themselves? Give me any day since birth.

Re: GC Netiquette Rules Amended
Why don't we enforce age limits on the game???Bock wrote: We don't enforce age limits for the game. Fine. Maybe a parent is fine with their kid playing the game, but don't want them seeing porn.
How is that fine?
Maybe the kid is playing the game without his parents consent? or maybe the parent doesn't know you can blow people up with C4 in this game?
How do you determine violence is fine for kids but porn isn't?!
I heard a few claims (from "professionals") that a violent game might make a kid more violent possible turning him into a murderer.
To be fair, i heard kids being exposed to porn might develop relationship problems / unrealistic expectations.
IMO having some trouble with the opposite sex is not as bad as shooting people in the streets.
So i don't really understand how you can accept kids being exposed to violence, but not to porn.
Don't take what fits you and ignore whats not, at least be fair and advocate to ban both, because violence is at least as "bad" as porn.

Re: GC Netiquette Rules Amended
GC is a private community where leadership has decided to try to enforce some basic standards of decorum to ensure openness and a welcoming atmosphere. You can't join a BF community without having elected to play BF, and thus accept BF level violence. You can join a BF community and not want to see the random crap people post in TS. We do not want to offend or scare off new players. So don't.
This has nothing to do with the validity of morals or whether boobs are worse than guns or whatever. If your idea of a welcoming environment includes linking people to random potentially edgy crap, you are wrong by definition of this community.
If you're in a channel with people you know and know they're not going to be offended, then I don't think you're going to get banned. But if you drop that same crap on your AAR meeting where you don't know everyone, you might if we find out about it.
Frankly I'm a little disappointed this is a debate at all. Regardless of your personal tolerance of the internet, everyone should be able to understand that you don't take a crap at the dinner table, no matter what you just saw on 4chan. Basic politeness should be a default behavior, not something that we have to explain and enforce. Up until now, we haven't had to, and I'm pretty confident that you all can behave, so I doubt we ever will need to ban people. But the rules are now there in case we need to.

we don't want someone saying the n word in the AAR and have someone else leave because of it right?!StarfisherEcho wrote:everyone should be able to understand that you don't take a crap at the dinner table, no matter what you just saw on 4chan. better add "no racism" to the list of rules just to be safe.
I think English speaking humans call it "common sense".
The point is you don't need to enforce it using so general rules on everyone.
Add to the GC rules that everyone need to show basic respect and common sense in public, and sanction those who don't.
You ban bots and trolls without it being explicitly written in the rules that you cannot harass people with automatic bots or playing non-stop music to everyone in the channel right? So on what grounds did you ban those IPs?
Bottom line you don't need a rule to ban/sanction a person, neither do you want to maintain a rule book the size of the US constitution for this community.
And the suggested rules are much broader then what you aim for, as you all agreed discussing it in private is fine.
