Cheap and I can run BF3 at maximum settings. Its glorious.
I'm surprised you can run on Ultra with an i3. What framerate are you running at?
It ended up testing at 44 fps on Ultra settings. 61 fps on High. The "eye candy" didnt seem any better on ultra but then again im an old man.

BF3 is not on a CPU-Leaning game... with a 680, the frame difference between the i7 3770k (standard) and the i3 3220 is plus/minus 8 fps... Since games don't really make use of hyperthreading and multi-coring.
Only Simulator's or really big RTS's/MMO's or things like that, will a i3 have a bit of a harder time. (by talking about gaming).
And ehm, that's what Intel want's you to believe. That you need at least a i5 to game, but that's far from true. But of course people that don't know will buy an i5 even though they can't get a good GPU then.

Well, obviously titles like BF aren't terribly CPU intensive, i still wasn't expecting a dual-core to run it at playable frames...

Well for me the game was almost unplayable on a E8400 @ 4GHz. Only until I got a quad I was able to play normally albeit with only 35 FPS/avg.

At the time it was an 8800GT. Then I got a quad with the same card and I could finally play. Before I couldn't.

The architecture matters also.
But BF3 works almost as good on a i3 as on a i7. (sandy or ivy)
