Originally posted on total bf2, I've gotten no replies so hopefully I might get one here Just need some help really
Hi all, I just installed BF2 onto my comp, loaded up fine (quicker than i expected tbh) and noticed severe control issues, one minute i could be holding down the forward button and nothing will happen or none of the controls will work, then all of a sudden, they work (after ive pressed a dozen buttons and blow myself up cos of it) and I let go and i could be still moving. I move the mouse and it will act like the mouse is going out of the screen and suddenly stop moving, could anyone give me some ideas?
Specs:
AMD Athlon 2500+ 1.8ghz
Ati Radeon 9700 pro 128
512mb ram
ok, and before you suggest, taking off AtiTools (or w.e its called ) i havent got that at all, and this is a fresh install of BF2
EDIT: Also having sound crackling issues never ever had these problems when i had my nvidia gfx card, everything worked fine then, i have a crappy SiS audio card built in with the motherboard, cant even be updated, Direct X is up to date as well as my Gfx Card Drivers. please anyone any ideas?
Yeah I usually have nothing on in the background anyway, and yeah i usually only go on "Create Local" when i wanna mess around on a map, not sure what my keyboard is it isn't a logitech one or a MS one, its got "Trust" above the lights (Scroll lck, caps and num)... everything is up to date i havent got atitools...
Create a local server and see if the lag persists, you didn't answer the question. This can help narrow down if its a problem with your PC or with your connection. What sort of ping do you get in a server?
Just beacuase you haven't started something in the background doesn't mean there's nothing there. When in game, minimise to desktop and push ctrl+alt+del and see if anything is using up more than 3% of your CPU consistently. With a machine like yours it wouldn't take much CPU hogging for the game to realy suffer.
Also, do you have AGP or PCI-E graphics? A 9700 AGP card is realy weak, even for BF2. If your graphics card isn't up to scratch then it could be using more CPU resources to help boost performance.
What settings do you have on your game? Check both visual, audio and controls. Is the sensitivity set down realy low?
I ask so many questions because without further information there could be so many causes. That info should help us narrow down the problem.
The lag is constant, ping is usually high on bf2 (around 80ms) this never happened when I had my previous gfx card, yes BF2 used to be stuttery then but the controls and everything worked fine had no problems, gfx settings on BF is set to low on everything, no programs running in the background, just start up click create local and start the map... and voila lag... lol - I have an AGP gfx card... do you want my dxdiag?
On another note, it won't be possible for me to get another gfx card, this one i got for free from a friend as he said it would help with FH, the only thing i could possibly afford at the moment is a gig of ram (wont be for a few weeks though)... Man I can't wait til i hit 16
y doesnt it show up anywhere? i cant find atitools on my computer.. I just think its down to the graphics card, maybe if i ever get another upgrade (meh likely chance... not) ill stick with nvidia
..I have nod32 with resident protection ON usually it scans dll or exe files...so when I was starting bf2 it was laggy....now I have manually disabled only bf.exe not to scan in real time...and no lag at all..

Got almost the same system,
Dude we need a new system, but untill that time add 1GB ram. That will do the trick. It worked for me.
But still only playable on the lowest settings.
And smoke on POE2 is walking in the MATRIX, very handy if you dodge bullets
Good luck, hopefully you knife me in the back soon
