I just found out this exists: http://openra.res0l.net/
It's Red Alert 1, C&C Tiberian Sun Tiberian Dawn and Dune 2000, all in one conveniently open source package. They tweaked and updated the UI and gave it a few options that are common for modern RTS games but left the core gameplay intact (they've made a few balance changes here and there - good ones, as far as I can tell right now).
I've only played a few rounds against AI, but so far it plays just as I remember it, which is great to say the least.
They are even planning to expand it to other early Westwood games in the future.
So if you're up for a true blast from the past, or if you simply want to play a really solid RTS game, this is the game for you.

Maybe we'll get some matches going. This would be my first round of RA multiplayer where I didn't have schlepp my PC to a friends home to play .

Tiberian Sun sounds good!
Edit: they don't have it there yet

My bad, it's Tiberian Dawn. TB said Tiberian Sun might be coming next.Necromancer wrote:Tiberian Sun sounds good!

If you want a proper blast from the past, get this
http://drackbolt.blogspot.dk/
Dune II was an amazing game, and pretty much the cornerstone upon which almost all future RTS games were based on.
Like the above, this is a fanbased revival project that made a bunch of changes to the original game in terms of controls, which in the original were the most basic you'd probably ever encounter but is changed to a more modern multi unit selection. Same goes for balance changes etc.
Any proper RTS fan should have played this imo, probably along with the above games as well.

Really?!
The entire series of games are some of the best RTS' out there. Westwood was one of the absolute best studios before EA bought them out. Do yourself a favour and try out the series.
